SEATTLE — Seattle police on Thursday released previously unseen images showing drug paraphernalia from the scene of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's suicide 20 years ago.

Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said that a detective who recently reviewed the Cobain case files found several rolls of undeveloped film taken at the suicide scene. The images released late Thursday were from that discovery.

One shows a box containing a spoon and what look like needles on the floor next to half a cigarette and sunglasses. The other shows the paraphernalia box closed, next to cash, a cigarette pack and a wallet that appears to show Cobain's identification.

“There was nothing earth-shattering in any of these images,” Witt said.

Police took another look at the Cobain suicide to be ready to answer questions in connection with next month's anniversary, she said.

“There's still a lot of interest in this case,” Witt said. “The detective went into the case files to refresh himself. The outcome of the case has not changed.”

Cobain's body was discovered in Seattle on April 8, 1994. An investigation determined that days earlier Cobain had gone into the greenhouse of his large home, taken a massive dose of heroin and then shot himself with a 20-gauge shotgun.

Earlier that year, Cobain had tried to kill himself in Rome by taking an overdose of tranquilizers.

I used to think he was murdered before I started doing heroin. Based on the drug concentration found in his blood, I believed Tom grant when he said he would have been to high to move rather yet shoot himself. Then I started using and realized dude just had a massive tolerance.

Cobain is on the cover of thos months guitar world. At first I was thinking it was going to be a graphic pic OE something.. Just his tool kit tho.

The media circus surrounding his death was ghoulish enough at the time.
20 years later, here they come again; the same tabloid scum that harassed the man in life will keep cashing in for as long as they can.
"Celebrity culture" is fucking twisted if you ask me.
Any other time, the same items would only be mentioned or photographed in print out of contemptuous disgust: suddenly some guy's cigar box of heroin paraphernalia is glamourous (or newsworthy).
How depressingly mundane.

It does seem that there are radically different opinions of people who self medicate with currently illegal drugs when they are either a) famous or b) dead. The millions of regular people using drugs every day are treated very differently. It's time for a paradigm shift, but will it ever happen?

South Park describes it best in the Brittany Spears episode. It seems like these celebrities are put up on a pedestal only to be literally taken apart bit by bit for the entertainment of the general populace.

There was no "gore". According to the reports from the guy who found him and from the police, its wasn't really a gruesome scene. With the exception of a little bit of blood on Cobains face, the electrician who found him said the body appeared totally intact without much damage. They should just release all the photos IMO. Those closest to him have probably already seen them anyhow.
