Krokodil has hit the streets of Chicago, a Google search turns up plenty of horrifying pics of people stripped of flesh to the bone like fuckin out of the walking dead but no description of the drug itself. If it's a white powder it can be passed off as dope which in my opinion would be criminal. Anyone have any idea what form it comes in? My impression is that it's gummy or tarry n would jot be confused with dope. People need to be educated how to distinguish it from heroin.

Good luck finding any solid answers; the drugs practically a mythological boogey-man. I think it'd be pretty unlikely dealers would try passing it off as dope; I don't think it even comes in powder form. (The only time I've seen it was on that Vice documentary-it was a clear solution), so if it was evaporated, I imagine the powder would be white or off-white. Anyway, there's no chance in hell this stuff would smell anything like heroin, so that would be a massive giveaway.

why do you think its in chicago? unless youve done it yourself, or seen it done in front of you, i highly doubt it

it doesnt make sense in the USA because codeine isnt OTC, and if you can get a script for pain meds might as well get something better.

I am not really concerned about it. It seems the stuff is typically injected right after cooking it up.

Codeine isn't otc in usa, it's illogical that it would be produced in Chicago.

Huh? There is still codeine in the USA, not as abundant as countries where it is OTC, but its very much there.

I have read about a few reports of it, however the DEA claims not to have gotten an actual sample of it since once in 2004.

The fact that Codeine isn't OTC certainly helps with the lack of it, but as with all drugs, I'm sure it will make it's way here soon enough. I just hope that with all the horror stories and information on how bad that shit it, that people will not knowingly start doing it.

But one of the articles I read said the people who ingested it thought they were doing heroin... so if some dealer decides to get a shit load of codeine and start cooking that crap up and selling it as dope, it could be a real problem if that catches on.

Well if someone going to use a control substance for the base, why not just make some homebake heroin? I don't really see this being a problem except maybe in rural areas with shake n' bake meth. There's plenty of cheap h in our area at least, it'd be more expensive to make krokodil.

I think the Russians actually got their codeine in combination pills such as co-codamol (at least before they banned it), and pills like that are available in the UK and the US, among other countries. So in theory, as long as there are websites and forums putting out "krokodil" recipes, then the drug could crop up wherever the pills are available.

This is all hysteria... The DEA has said they haven't seen ANY cases of Krokodil in the United States and the "doctor" in Chicago that said he had treated 3 cases (then it was 4, now 5?!) is hardly credible... The Chicago Tribune did a piece about a week ago and they were the first media outlet to actually INVESTIGATE these claims, and according to health officials: NOT HAPPENING. This is just hysteria that will further stigmatize drug use. It is illogical that it would be in Chicago where heroin and other opioids are so readily available - as well as methadone clinics. In Russia codeine is over the counter AND they don't allow methadone or buprenorphine treatment... That creates an environment where Krokodil and such B.S. can thrive. What we SHOULD be talking about - instead of sensationalizing this - is why Krokodil is even around in Russia in the first place? Why do we have a drug "policy" that woudl lead to this? It's more evidence of the failing "War on Drugs" (war on people) as well as the results of Russia having a ban on methadone. I guarantee you if methadone clinics were opened across Russia Krokodil would be no more! ::sigh::

The Partnership at DrugFree.org also had a piece a couple days ago (I'm sure all these pieces can be easily accessed) that also said it wasn't happening and they cited some DEA officials saying the same thing. I initially figured the DEA was IN on the hysteria (the DEA should be disbanded), so if the DEA is saying it isn't happening the is most certainly ISN'T because they would probably LIKE it to be happening to fuel their propaganda to continue the ever-failing war on drugs....

Exactly. If you ask me, the one and only reason it became a problem in Russia at all is because of their drug treatment policy, if you can call it that; addicts have only one option, and that's cold turkey. (And we all know how pathetically low the success rates for cold turkey detoxes are). Those Russian addicts aren't stupid for willingly injecting krokodil, they're just desperate and have no access to substitutes or adequate treatment. A lot of people blame the pharma companies for selling addicts the codeine pills, and yeah they're complicit, but the real culprit has to be the policy makers.

It's made by reacting OTC codeine in the same fashion as meth. A simple tek that any half assed "cook" can easily make in someone's toilet/bathroom/kitchen. It's full of nasty impurities and using IV really fucks the body. That is why it's called krokodil your skin looks like shit real fast. I've forgotten the active opiate produced from this dodgy reaction but from memory it hits like H but has a shorter half life. I wouldn't be surprised if some people were knocking this shit up and cutting H with it a bit like that home bake codeine/morphine/heroin shit. People IV home bake and end up with nasty infections at the injection site, raised paracetamol levels and possible thrombi from any residual home bake glug they shoot up. Eeewww!!

The stuff is usually gummy but can be cut to make a powder like substance, add a splash of H and you got some krokodil home bake. I think "cheese" is a mix of tylenol/codeine and black tar heroin. As for the script Dr shopping for mild-moderate pain relievers like tylenol/codeine should not pose much of an issue to someone making home bake meth and home bake H. Krokodil is much easier to manufacture than home bake heroin.

Unless the DEA is responsible for introducing the drug to the US in order to cause chaos and harm amongst the drug using community.

(joking. sortof)

Russians must be goddamned stupid..

Codeine otc is half the battle..do a cwe and take it. No need to rape the molecule into a krokidil and terrorize the streets of Illinois...
