Hell BL, ive been taking kratom for almost 2 years now for depression (reason that i started, and has pretty much cured it) and opiate replacement. I take about 15g of powdered leaf a day, how much magnesium should i take to notice a difference in my tolerance level. Also do i dose the Mag. once in the morning or throughout the day? any advise it appreciated, thanks!

How does that thread answer his question at all? He's not asking about shitting, he's asking about lowering tolerance. Though I do agree he should UTFSE.

I take 600mg chelated Magnesium (Magnesium glycinate) 30 minutes before dosing Kratom, then I eat a meal 20 minutes after dosing, and take 30mg of Zinc with my postmeal vitamins. The Zn and Mg help prevent tolerance from increasing, and the meal somehow potentiates the Kratom, probably due to kickstarting your metabolism and moving that hydrophobic Kratom through your intestines to be absorbed.

Toothpastedog, Mag Citrate is alright, but usually has an intense laxative effect at the doses needed for tolerance increase prevention.

600mg Chelated Mg ~= 1000-1200 Mg Citrate, IIRC

Thank you so much ErgicMergic, thats exactly the type of answer i was looking for, someone with experience with both substances. one more Question, is 600mg of chelated Mg bad for you?

I actually usually would welcomed said laxative effect, as I would be constipated when used for such. But the more info on different types the better here! It's so much more than just "Magnesium," it's the actual type.

600mg will be fine. It also helps with beznso w/d more than one might expect, although of course it's no miracle cure

No problem!

As for 600mg chelated Magnesium being bad for you, to be totally honest I have no idea. The one that I take has 125mg of Calcium for every 400mg of Magnesium, and from what I understand, although Ca agonizes the NMDA receptors, working against Mg, you need some sort of Calcium with your Magnesium.

I've read that you shouldn't take more than 600-800mg/day, but I take 600mg in the morning, and 400-600mg right before bed to help with REM sleep, and I haven't run in to problems (had my blood work done recently).

That much Magnesium glycinate definitely impacts your bowels, though! Drink plenty of water to prevent this, but not too much.

Toothpastedog, funnily enough I use Magnesium Oxide as needed (the worst type of Magnesium supplement) purely as a laxative for constipation caused by opiates, processed carbs, high protein intake, or by Magnesium glycinate.

Magnesium actually causes constipation, it's all that non-chelated Mg+ (broken off from MgO in the case of Magnesium Oxide) in subpar Magnesium supplements that float around in your stomach and bowels, waiting to be bound to free-floating ions from water that causes diarrhea from the osmotic laxative effect. Mg+ doesn't make it to your intestines with out binding to water ions.

Chelated minerals are the way to go, they are bound to chelating agents, such as amino acids, so they are purely absorbed by the intestines.

Btw, Madog is our resident BLUA and search engine Nazi, you'll get used to her soon enough.

I recently bought 600 250 mg tablets. They were out of any other type of magnesium and I didn't know at the time that MgO is pretty much useless.

Is there any way to up absorption/bioavailability of magnesium oxide? Since it breaks up via acid-base reaction, low pH liquid (like orange juice) is a possibility. Is there any other easy method of uping absorption?
