Kratom Kratom strain variations are wild

Obviously, red, green and white kratoms have different effects with red being more sedating, white being more of a pure stimulant, and green somewhere in between. Beyond that, I was under the impression that strains were largely marketing.

I usually take a basic "red maeng da" kratom blend, and its largely sedating. I read that switching strains can help with tolerance, and I'm tapering, so I got a small bag of "red hulu". Unlike red maeng da, which doesn't seem to have a notable effect on my blood pressure and pulse, red hulu raised my blood pressure and gave me significant heart palpitations. It didn't send it into dangerous territory, but it was alarming nonetheless.

I never realized how different different kratom strains of the same color could be. Just something to keep an eye on, this is probably not an issue for most people but I have some fucked up mystery ailment at the moment so I don't want to tempt fate personally.

Kratom strains are a myth. Its all marketing. There *is* a difference between red and white strains, but objectively most of the labels they throw out there are bullshit.

In general, ALL kratom is from Indonesia, although a few Thai vendors are popping up, but in general 99.9% of the kratom sold in the US is from Indonesia.

There is no such thing as red, green, yellow, etc. There is only sun dried, oxidized, leaf. This is sedating, aka red. Then there is leaf that was not dried in the sun, energizing, aka white.

All colors and strains are just a mixture of red and white. Green is 50/50. Yellow is 25/75. Gold is 75/25.

The ONLY difference between one strain and another is how much of it was dried in the sun. Thats it. All varieties of kratom boil down to that. And impurities, which tend to give side effects like tremors and palpitations.

Oxidizing kratom, aka sun drying, causes the stimulating alkaloids to degrade, leaving you with only the sedating ones. This is what makes a red less stimulating than a white strain. Oxidizing also degrades some of the mitragynine which is why red strains are generally less potent than white strains by about 0.5%

Oh also there is fermented kratom, aka betunguie (sp), which is the most sedating. Fermented kratom is red in color (literally). Dark red. This is basically just extra oxidized kratom.

I've written about all the specifics but too lazy to find the thread now.

For example, say you have a vendor selling 6 different stains. They don't have 6 different batches of kratom. They get 2 big batches, an oxidized batch and a non oxidized batch. Then they mix those 2 batches in various ratios and create 6 different products from it.

Thats how it works behind the scenes. All the vendors do it.

Well all I can say is from personal experience, recorded with a blood pressure cuff, that one "strain" has an objectively higher effect on my blood pressure and pulse than my usual, which has little or no impact. Call it whatever you want, whatever I got called "red hulu" has far more of a stimulant effect on the cardiovascular system than my usual stuff, from the same vendor. Maybe its a different ratio, maybe it was straight up white kratom mislabeled. It certainly felt more like white kratom I have tried.

If they really are advertising any kind of white kratom as red, and talking about it having primarily sedative properties, that's really bad.

Yeah its one of the stimulating alkaloids found in white kratom. I don't like it. Its has a long half life and builds up in your system. The side effects get worse if you take that batch daily.

Kratom can vary quite a bit from batch to batch, but not due to their marketing claims.

Well, I can only speak from personal experience and YMMV, but I find all kratom somewhat stimulating and I stick to "red vein" because it just feels a little stronger in the vaguely opioid-like mood lifting sense. Not euphoria, but its subtler cousin.

Likewise, I usually get "Red Maeng Da" because it seems to be consistently potent, but others are fine too. I've found more difference between brands than between so-called strains, with one exception: I've tried three different brands of "white vein" kratom and felt almost nothing every time.

It seems that all kratom affects everyone differently.

Thankfully my vendors "red maeng da" has been remarkably consistent. This was the first time I went out of my way to try any of their other products since I've been checking for this stuff, but yes I'm definitely not a fan of the stimulating variety.

Personally, its a tolerance thing. When my tolerance is low, "red maeng da" gives me nearly a full on opioid effect, nods included at high enough doses. As my tolerance builds, the stimulation and sedation balance out. I tend to prefer taking it close to bed when my tolerance is low, but I have to give it a solid three hours before bed if my tolerance is high.

I have a past history of opiate use so perhaps my tolerance for the opioid like properties build quicker than the stimulant properties.

I definitely know certain vendors are consistently a dud no matter what product I try from them. It seems I've found one product I really like from one vendor and I'll just stick with that until my taper is done.

Yes since 2021 Thailand rescheduled kratom making it legal to use,trade,grow..you can find kratom vending machines around Bangkoks busy areas,,and a kilo of fresh leaf in the market goes for about $2,,,there was nothing speedy about fresh leaf I only used them to help ease withdrawals,,at home in the states I always bought the red strain but one time a company sent me a sample of white or green and I definitely felt the speedy ness of it and I flushed the rest of it….

I’ve had vastly different experiences with kratom depending on the day. Same dose, same variety, same bag, same empty stomach, same time of day, everything. And some days it would stimulate the hell out of me to the point of anxiety, or sedate me to the point of a genuine nod.

There are just so many different variables involved in the metabolization of oral opioids, especially kratom.
