Opioids kratom serotogenic activity?

I'm looking to experiment with kratom and have a question.

I've read everywhere and can't find if it acts on increasing serotonin?

I'm already taking paxil 20mg and buspar 20mg daily and I don't want to risk serotonin syndrome by adding kratom.
 
Since Kratom is not very well studied, no one is able to able to give you a 100% certain answer. The only thing I have to say is that many people on serotonergic antidepressants have used it and suffered no ill effects (I for example have used it with Trazodone many times and had nothing that would be classified as a sertotonin syndrome). Practice caution anyway and maybe start with an ultra low dose and work it up.

Kratom might very well be serotonergic, but somewhere I read that one compound in it might be a 5HT antagonist.
 
Thanks guys. Yeah erring on the side of caution is always the best practice for everything. I'll start with half a gram which from what I read would be an ultra low dose.

Mitraginine has possible 5HT2A antagonist property;
Mitragynine: Indole alkaloid. Analgesic, antitussive, antidiarrheal, adrenergic, antimalarial,possible psychedelic (5-HT2A) antagonist. Roughly 66% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

and Tetrahydroalstonine has alpha-a2 antagonist activity;
Tetrahydroalstonine: Hypoglycemic, anti-adrenergic (at alpha-2)

and finally Corynoxine A and B affect Dopamine;
Corynoxine A and B: Dopamine mediating anti-locomotives. < 1% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

There actions are not very potent so it should not be a big problem BUT, if you try it, start at very low dose and work your way up.

Thanks I don't know why I didn't see that when I was reading. 5HT is serotonin right?

Agonist works on and antagonist works against, right?
 
I was on Paxil and I did do alot of Kratom in higher doses (15g leaf to start) when i began as it seemed i had a natural tolerance of some kind. I also got anxiety quite often from it, but prob from the higher doses, and when it wore off.

Not sure if this may be relate to the paxil, i also wondered this a while back
 
Exact, 5HT (5-Hydroxytryptamine) is Serotonine, Antagonist block the receptors, Agonist active them.

@blight12, high dose of kratom often cause dyphoric effect, nausea and anxiety. The best is to find the lowest effective dose with Kratom.
 
Yeah tolerance was a huge issue for me, i would try to accomodate that and all it gives is anxiety. It sucks. I have been through week long breaks and normal lead still doesnt do anything, even off Paxil now. Damn those extracts.
