Kratom seems very controversial. Some people swear by it, others dismiss it. I've spent a lot of time messing around with different ways of ingesting kratom and preparing kratom tea and I feel I've finally struck gold.
Let me first say that a lot of people say, "just parachute the plant matter." That for me has been the least effective ingestion method and leads to nausea and vomiting from forcing your poor stomach to digest that nasty plant matter. The tea I've learned to make tastes GOOD and has given me NO nausea whatsoever. Ironically, on day 2 of my 60mg/day Oxy habit if anything it completely relieved my nausea.
Here is the big differentiator I've found from both experience and online research: POWDER YOUR LEAF!!! Do not just try and make tea from the crushed leaves as they come in the package. It just doesn't work as well. I've tested this a large number of times and almost every single time, powdering the leaf leads to a stronger tea as it seems more alkaloids get released.
So measure out your dose, I normally do 15g per batch, and dump that right into a food processor or coffee grinder. Keep your finger on that button for at least 20 seconds, let the leaves get as powdered as you can possibly get them. You'll still have some green chunks in there, but you should see what looks like brown dust. This is what you want.
Dump the ground plant into a pot and poor a small amount of water into the grinder/processor to get as much of the brown dust out of the processing cup as possible and into the pot.
At this point, add 1/2 liter of water and SOFTLY boil for 15 minutes. What I mean is, do NOT turn the flame on full blast. This is the other prime mistake I've learned through my experiences. Overboiling the leaf makes the tea taste bitter and nasty, and every time I've boiled it more gently the tea has come out more potent for me. I have no idea if harshly boiling destroys some of the alkaloids, but it almost seems that way.
Let it cool for a few minutes, then strain into a storage container and return the plant matter back to the pot. The liquid in the container should be opaque when cooled and have some tiny black granules on the bottom, this is exactly what you want. Now add one full liter of water and softly boil for about 25 minutes, stirring once in a while and letting the liter reduce down quite a bit.
Strain once again into the storage container and discard the plant matter. Now add all the liquid back to the pot and softly boil for another 10-20 minutes to reduce the liquid down to just a bit more than half a liter in volume.
The tea should be dark and opaque and will keep in the fridge a good 5 days, but it probably won't make it that far.
I usually at this point dump half the liquid into a coffee cup and generously add honey. THis is crucial; honey counteracts the bitterness of the leaf. The tea will already be less bitter than if you full blasted the burner like you're making a toiling pot of witches brew, adding the honey honestly makes the tea taste good. I swear.
Down the hatch, wait 15-30 minutes and enjoy. I've had success EVERY time I prepared the leaf exactly in this manner, even with different strains. Powdering the leaf was kind of like finding the holy grail of kratom. Before I started doing that, I never got really any positive effects.
NOw, the tea gets me quite high. It's subtle and warm, not intense and strongly euphoric. Will I be replacing oxy any time soon? Not quite. There's still nothing like snorting a fat line of blissful oxy powder, but Kratom tea prepared this way reminds me of popping a few Vicodins just to mellow out.
I'm currently taking a break from Oxy for a few weeks, and I'm on day 2 of w/d. I just drank some tea about an hour ago and I feel floaty, warm, and relaxed with a slight sprinkling of euphoria. Considering I woke up feeling like I was going to upheave my innards, I'll call that a good deal.
Combine drinking the tea generously throughout the day (I made about 5 batches) and taking a liberal benzo dose at night, I've had, dare I say, almost an enjoyable w/d experience. Mind you, kratom will MOST LIKELY work better for those coming off a smaller habit. I can't comment on how much this will help for someone on a 250mg/day habit, but for me it's been amazing.
Lastly, I was one of the kratom skeptics for a long time. It never did anything for me. Then I started powdering the leaf and gently boiling for a longer period of time and it's like I struck gold.
Mods, please feel free to move this thread into the Kratom megathread or wherever you need to, I just wanted people to easily see it at least at first.
Cheers guys.
