I just came into a sizeable amout of kratom and have been considering using it to taper off of my alcohol and benzo habit. I know it wont make the benzo wd much easier but i have hope with it in regards to reducing my drinking.
I was wondering how effective it would be to replace the alcohol with 4-6 grams bali leaf every other day until i could reduce my dose to just a few grams a week.

Do you guys think it would hell qualm the anxiety and physical pain of the alcohol and GABA withdraw if used in moderation? Im open to all thoughts and advice. Thanks guys!

Hmm how much do you drink/benzo dosage?

Maybe kava would be a better alternative to kratom :)

^Agreed. I'm not aware of any activity on the GABA system via kratom.

There are lots of other OTC/legal options for helping you taper GABA drugs. If you're using high doses of benzos and/or drinking heavily, the safest way to do it is under a doctor's supervision.

I take 4 mg of clonazepam and 700 mg of carisoprodal a night. When i drink its usually between 4-10 drinks on top of the medication. Kratom actually does have many non- mu receptor alkoloids. But i dont plan on using it for GABA effects. More to fill the emotional gap/dysphoria and physical pains of withdrawl. This is going to be under doctor supervision as well. She just doesnt know much about kratom.

Just as an update, i have not drank alcohol for for 5 days and have yet to experience any pronounced wd symptoms. Ive even reduced my clonazepam intake by one mg/day while using my bali kratom. It seems promising for tapering off GABAergic agents; at least in my case. What a great surprise! I think the mental/emotional component has been the most helpful of all the effects.

I only read the title. No. Just no.

Maybe gabapentin or pregabalin, possibly some OTC antihistamines to help sleep like promethazine aswell.

^^ ive been using bali and i has no anxiogenic effects at all.
Im using it to get over the light physical and emotional discomfort of withdrawl, not to replace the GABAergic drugs.
^ You've got to read the title, whats the point in posting without any idea of what im asking. Gabapentin actually has residual stimulant effects, similar to ghb. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Im sticking by my experience, moderate doses of Bali have been great for filling the void, and i dont feel habituated at all yet.

It's entirely possible to replace the psychological aspect of alcohol addiction with kratom, but it won't substitute for the physical aspects of alcohol/BZD withdrawal.

The kratom has been a godsend for me; ive entirely quite drinking and my urge to dose has gone down quite a bit. The kratom has also taken care of the pain left over from my knee surgery a couple of months ago. It seems like a very promising method of tapering. As long as the anxiety doesnt overwhelm you, i would definitely suggest using kratom if nothing else has helped.

Kratom is my absolute favorite drug of all drugs, yes ALL drugs, for many reasons. It is an amazing plant with mountains of benefits with MINIMAL price to pay monetarily, mentally and physically.

For the alcohol withdrawals, I can see kratom fixing nearly everything. It will ease your physical pain, it will ease your anxiety and depressive symptoms, and even will produce a euphoria of all it's own, which I feel is better than any drink or benzo I've ever had! On mornings after nights of heavy drinking, even when I wake up with a wicked hangover AND have to go to work, a nice stiff glass of kratom has me smiling and bounding out the door to take on the day! Just be careful with frequency on kratom, as it can be fairly psychologically addicting. There should be no problem dosing a couple times a week, taking weeks off here and there, etc.. However, if you're like me, and you start to LOVE how kratom sets your life in order, it will be hard to find reasons NOT to dose up every day. Even so, the "withdrawal" is a joke, is 95% mental, and subsides within a couple days, unlike opiate withdrawals which can last months from what I've read.

Kava, as mentioned above, will definitely aid in easing the GABA-specific issues your having, curb anxiety, relax you at the end of the day, help you sleep, etc.. It also is a lovely combination on top of kratom. It will discourage alcohol consumption as well because kava+alcohol is an awful combination.

Kratom in the morning before work, maybe a booster around lunch time if you're feelin' that way, and then a nice heap of kava when you arrive home, maybe a another kava before bed. You'll be right as rain! You won't have to worry about hurting yourself either, because both herbs are pretty much completely harmless to our bodies and brains when used responsibly, whereas alcohol and benzos are absolutely terrible for you.

Good luck, it sounds like you're on the right track!! Keep us updated.

^ thanks man, i appreciate the enthusiasm and positivity. Im interested in kava but have heard mixed reviews about it. It seems as if its hit and miss with the potency and quality of the root. Any tips for me before i look any deeper into it?

I recommend finding a vendor that offers sample sizes, buy yourself a variety, and make some fun exploration out of it! All the different strains have different effects, and work differently for different people. Same with kratom. It's a lot of fun exploring all the different strains and seeing how their effects vary.

Also, don't waste your time with extracts for either kava or kratom. Use plain powdered root for kava and plain powdered leaf for kratom.
