Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section for this post. I'm having knee surgery shortly. I found out that are giving me a very small prescription for hydrocodone and I'm afraid it will run out before I am pain-free ( seems likely). I do take Kratom already, at low dosages so I'm familiar with it, but I stopped taking it a couple weeks ago because I knew I had surgery coming up and wanted to make my pain med tolerance be lower so my script would work ok.
Anyhow, once the hydro runs out, I thought I might try the kratom ( prefer not combining them). Do you think it will kill pain well enough and at what dosages for that? Any thing I should keep in mind, re the hydro or whatever, like it affecting healing or screwing with opioid effectiveness?
I don't plan for this to be a long term thing. Hopefully my pain gets better and I can do without it, like maybe I'll take hydrocodone for a few days, then kraton for another week or two at low dosages ( they are only giving me 20-5mg vicodins)
Thanks!

dont underestimate the power of tylenol and naproxen, or kratom for that matter

i had my hips replaced while getting vivitrol shots (sober aside from cigarettes and coffee), and hips are easier/less painful than knees from what i hear, but you can do it. Do the stretches they tell you to do. Will you be able to use crutches?

Kratom and ibuprofen works better than the lighter pain killers. For me better than codeine or hydrocodone. Although hydrocodone never did anything to me below 25 mgs where a codeine worked at even 60 mgs. Never understood why.

But yes, don't underestimate kratom mixed with an OTC pain killer.

Hips sound difficult. Luckily I'm not doing an actual knee replacement, so the process is easier
Yeah, I can use crutches. I started zipping around on them, and I can put some weight on the knee but the anesthetic hasn't worn off yet so no idea how much pain at all yet. The trick is that I really have to keep my he swelling down, so ice and lots of elevation is key to reducing pain and speeding healing. They gave me the NSAID Meloxicam ( Mobic) which is pretty good I believe. I'll be pretty ok I think.

my first hip replacement was home same day too. the second one a few weeks later had to stay overnight b/c the epidural lingered for a few hrs

best wishes on a speedy recovery. id personally try to solely use the OTC stuff is possible and save all the hydrocodone to actually get a buzz a couple times after finished healing. You can take Tylenol along with that meloxicam , just no other NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aleve/naproxen)

Good suggestion. It doesn't really seem to get me high when it's being used for pain 😉

I take kratom or 7oh for my pain and it works just as well as other opiates, just doesn't last as long. For me it also increases energy so I'm able to be more functional than on prescription medication.
Kratom + Ibuprofen goes a long way. I have a spinal issue that completely disabled me from severe pain daily and kratom was the only thing I cold access but it got me to the point that I was able to function without too much pain. Good luck with your recovery!

Meloxicam
Be careful with that one warnings have no coffee and not taking it and lying down amongst other warnings.
I tried it and the substance makes me bleed internally somewhere so I cut that quick.
Please read the warnings?
The kratom may be all you need but I know that when I broke my shin bone and had a fracture where it connects to knee it hurt like hell but hurt even worse when I started healing. I mean like throbbing aches during the wee hours of the morning that would bring tears to my eyes.
If you have a tub epsom salt helps with the aches and pains somewhat if you can soak in it for a while.
Best on your healing process.

I'm doing pretty well, I guess. I went for an easy 15 minute walk this morning, I do all the PT exercises they gave me. The knee actually doesn't hurt much at all, though I have to be cautious. But man do my calf and plantar fascia hurt like hell now and that didn't get any surgery.
And for sure, it's way worse in the night. But greedy pleasure seeking pig that I am, I hate to waste painkillers that actually get me high in the night when I'm asleep!
I'm pretty hesitant about the kratom. I stopped taking it a month back because it just wasn't very positive for me anymore, though I always take low doses. And, I honestly I really liked the buzz of the Norco ( but always low dose, because they only gave me 20) But I did try some kratom the other day. The high was really disappointing but the pain control was good.
I'm careful to take Meloxicam with a meal and water, midday. Before bed would probably destroy me! But I'm not sure how much good it does me anyhow. I prefer Tylenol for simple pain relief. Still the anti-inflammatory thing about Meloxicam may be doing me good, as I still have some swelling.
I never thought about the bath and epsom salts, I have to add that to my list

Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised how much the kratom helped with pain the other day. I thought the pain relief had better legs than the high itself, but hard to say.
I'm glad to hear it's helped you with your pain. Chronic spinal issues sounds worse than my situation

I'm in your same deal. Every disc is bad, Nerve pain is off the charts on the daily. Drs here won't prescribe because I have trace amounts of THC (from smoking CBD flower). So I get no pharmaceutical help. I've been reading about 7oh and wondered if it really works for severe 8+ pain. I've taken Percocet for about a decade - been through the dopesick and crushing depression just fine - not an addict. Then I moved to the most conservative state in the union and I'm out of luck and help. Any info for a new user of 7oh for legit pain would be greatly appreciated.

long term plain leaf use is proven pretty safe, albeit quality is much less strong than 10-15yrs ago. it even tasted different.

It is more self-regulating as it will cause nausea with overconsumption. the metabolite psuedoindoxyl mitragynine seems more promising, less addicting, with the mood boosting effects and less habit-forming.

I have nerve damage and artificial hips. Weaker muscles = more pressure, more pain. Gabapentin , Naproxen, and baclofen Tylenol helped much better. YMMV, but something like high dose CBD might calm nerves more than any opiod. Treating the cause = less symptoms

If you have actual nerve pain, dr's are generally pretty freely willing to try gabapentin. It is much less consistent than the superior pregabalin, inconsistently absorbed, but if you plan and take it with heavy meals you might get far more benefit for a while.

Taking kratom after your hydro runs out should be fine as far as hitting those pain receptors and whatnot. And you did good coming off kratom before taking hydro; I was personally surprised to find out how much of a tolerance I had on opioid after being a daily kratom user for a long time and then breaking my hip and being given pain meds like shots of Dilaudid which did next to nothing.

I have to say that it does seem likely that I got a good tolerance break from dropping the kratom for that long, in the sense that the hydrocodone worked very nicely. However I just now started up with kratom again and it seems like the hydro wrecked it for me. Of course, I only took a low dose of kratom, but still, it was very disappointing and I'm left not wanting to bother taking any for awhile. Oh well...
