Kratom after suboxone detox

Greetings,

I have been a long time lurker and would like to welcome myself and say hi to all the great people who post on this site. I have a question about Kratom after a suboxone detox.

I read and hear about how great kratom is for withdrawing from opiods yet at the same time I read about how addictive it is. I have been detoxing myself from a 5 year long suboxone "therapy" and it was only after many months of work that I have been successful. I would like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences in that regard as it helped tremendously. This has been the most successful attempt to fully rid myself of maintenance after 13 years. I am down to .250mg from 16mg daily and am jumping off. I have been interested in kratom in helping in the beginning. I am super happy and proud of myself, but I know that I am very capable of going and getting some REAL opiates now.

I have an addictive personality and opioids are the bane of my existence.

Would it be severely stupid to even consider this? I have been a heavy user my whole life of many substances, however I have given up cannabis for the time as I never have before and have several months clean and am happy about that. Also quit klonopin 8mg/day and tobacco 2packs/day in October. I know if I were to choose anything cannabis would be the smartest choice over kratom but I don't want to for personal reasons at the moment.

If you were to use kratom, what would be the maximum time of use before addiction? A week a month? I was going to get a half pound, but after reading about addiction issues on this site I decided to post first. I have no experience with real kratom, only once with head shop garbage many years ago. I have no interest in concentrations.

I just do not want to go back to illicit drugs and by quitting suboxone the allure of relapsing on opiods is too great. By not using anything and after all these years I feel very unpredictable.

I have not made my mind up my mind and am looking for advice thank you in advance.

A half pound is alot if u are worried about another habit. 2 or 3 oz would do and do a 10-14 day taper.just taking enough to get over the worst symptoms. Kratom can be addicting but u just have to use it like u were using your subs and not for recreation on the other hand .25 is a low dose and possible to jump off at.. maybe start skipping days? But im no doc..best of luck!!

Just don't... If your already at such a low dose of bupe, your goal is to quit, and opioids are the "bane of your existence" just continue with your taper and jump, stay away from any more opioids. Either keep cutting your dose or start taking your dose every other day and quit whenever your ready. There's a huge possibility you'll just use kratom as a crutch and keep telling yourself "at least I'm not on real opiates" (kratom is an actual opioid btw) and delay or even set back your healing process.

Your an addict with an addictive personality (from your own mouth), you already know how this will likely turn out for you. Would you make the jump to codeine instead of kratom? There's honestly not much of a difference and the people who struggle the most with kratom withdrawal are those with prior habits. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge supporter of using kratom to get off opioids but not when you've already come so far and switching will do more harm than good. Just keep doing what your doing and get these opioids out of your life, good luck :).

Btw kratom is completely cross-tolerant with opiates so the question as to how long it will take before your dependant to it is irrelevant. If you get off sub and make it through withdrawal only to use kratom you'll be thrown back into withdrawal and re-instate tolerance very quickly, as little as a few uses depending on how long you've been WD free. Jumping straight from such a tiny dose of sub to kratom will only prolong your withdrawal and may even set you back. At this point, it's just unnecessary and not a good idea.

Awesome

Thanks a million!

Would you make the jump to codeine instead of kratom?

That is what I needed to read!

I knew it was too good to be true, but am desperate. My sub w/d has been a long process as I wanted it to be successful, and although it has felt like slowly pulling a band-aid off for the past few months I know myself too well and wanted to do things right for once. Watching all the kratom videos made me want to give it a go, although I read that it hits opiate receptors I just didn't think in the above quoted terms. Too much time, effort and success has been invested to go through the dance again. I was about to order, glad I didn't. Thanks!!
