leaves its multihued marks
across the sky.
sandcastle fortifications,
seemingly erected overnight,
resist in futility
the encroachment
of the army at its gates.
like any good siege,
you know this one will
bring down the walls
of this fine city.
behind the log
that made its landing,
aided by the tide
and ordered out of pride,
a small boy,
magnification glass in hand,
plays out fantasies.
cruel god of fate!
as hades he spares none.
burning those whose displeasure
he has brought
and wrought
upon them with great fury and vengeance.

why do they not ask smokers?
