MEXICO CITY — Federal police have arrested Mexico's "King of Heroin," a powerful drug trafficker allegedly responsible for running thousands of pounds of heroin into Southern California each year, authorities said Thursday.

Jose Antonio Medina, nicknamed "Don Pepe," was arrested in the western state of Michoacan on Wednesday and is being held for prosecution, said Ramon Pequeno, head of the anti-narcotics division of Mexico's federal police.

Medina, 36, ran a complex smuggling operation that hauled 440 pounds (200 kilograms) of heroin each month across the Mexican border in Tijuana for La Familia drug cartel, Pequeno said

In terms of actual use, though, a user can generally use about 2 grams a day. That's what I based the calculation on.

in Toronto a couple of months back these dudes got caught with like 110 kilos, considered the biggest bust in canadian history, i think. Tdot stand up! even though we're rivals lol=D
 
200 kilo a month a mega dope! Your not gonna use two grams of what he was smuggling a day! As someone else mentioned, once in country each key probably became 2-3 after cutting. The guy was hauling in 6+ million a month. (article said 12 but you know how that goes) Not too shabby. He might not have been THE King but he was defo a Prince.
 
I don't know what dope you guys are using, but the dope I get sure as hell isn't that cut. At most 200Kg gets turned into 400, at MOST. That would be 50% heroin. The dope we're getting in the NE US is between 65% - 85% on average.
 
YEAH you guys are LUCKY AS FUCK over there.
In chicago we have anywhere from 10-30% and we are considered a good area for heroin.
At 20% that would mean each kilo of 100% would becom 5 so...
200kg pure turns to 1000kg street smack on average.
 
Hmm. Yeah I know we receive dope thats better than average. I guess I didn't realize it got diluted that much. I figured 30-50% at least. Excuse my ignorance...

Yeah, this thing had a direct effect on VTA county. With both those dudes busted in oxnard its effected alot of the little fish below them, and disrupted shit.

The dope we get in the NE is largely from Columbia, so the dope their getting is probably from Mexico, like the article states. :p

I think you were closer on the first post. I was looking at drug statistics in Connecticut for 2002 and the 3 primary cities had high % rates for purity. Of course, cities are huge and there's a lot of dealers, so some of the product is going to be cut more than others.

This was also for 2002 and could have fluctuated to a lower purity average. I know the heroin production has increased dramatically in the middle-east, but I don't know anything about the Columbian market. I know I was getting high in 2005 and I've gotten in 2010, and it seems about the same (if not better).

Here it is, "Most of the heroin available in Connecticut is produced in South America. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), heroin available in the state was 40 to 95 percent pure in the first quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2003. Federal, state, and local law enforcement officials report that little, if any, Southeast Asian, Southwest Asian, or Mexican brown powdered or black tar heroin is available in Connecticut."

Eh, no big bust from what I think. I believe there are vast fields of poppies grown in Sinaloa...which are most likely controlled by the cartel of the same name. I think most of the poppies grown in Mexico come from that region. Anyways, some new guy has already taken "the king's" crown no doubt.
 
The dope coming from Mexico doesn't change the average consumption of an addict. Heroin is heroin.
 
All the dope fiends in Oxnard are gonna be fiending for a while. Luckily I got out of that game, but I'd be curious to know how supply & demand are at the moment. No more gang-bangers for me though please, kthx. Sketchy-ist times of my life were tryin to find some tar in Colonia.

I'm from Ventura County too, can't believe he is coming here.
