edit - OK, I admit I was being kind of ridiculous. She told me she was just kidding around and she's allowed to be attracted to other guys, which is true of course.

Lololol, dude, like she has any chance with Hugh Jackman. I wouldn't think anything serious of it

Think of a celebrity you find really, really attractive.
Adopt the mind of a young female for 5 minutes.
Realise it's playful.
Stop worrying.

Now when I read the OP I did laugh, admittedly, but I would like to propose this, and humour me for a moment:

If Hugh Jackman was to come to her town and go to a bar for a drink and chat her up, she would undoubtedly reciprocate, because it's "OMG HUGH JACKMANZ OMG!!!11 LOLZATRAZ".

This wouldn't be ok.....or would it? Cheating is still cheating, regardless of whether it is with someone who is their idol or a 1 in a million chance or a one-off.

Now like I said, I did initially laugh at the OP but then I thought of it like this:
Say you replace the name "Hugh Jackman" with someone who isn't a celebrity, say a friend of a friend who lives in another country (thus reducing the likelihood of her physically cheating), would it be ok to say she is madly in love with her hunny bunny "Joe Bloggs" or whatever? She might not be cheating and of course as we it's a celebrity we find it tongue-in-cheek and laughable due to her slim chance of ever meeting the guy, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't do something with him if she DID meet him.

I'm just seeing it from his perspective, because really I think it's nothing to worry about as we treat celebrities like sex gods/goddesses and idols and even friends in modern Western culture and she was just writing a playful comment on a celebrity, but still, it's funny how different it may be perceived if it was the name of some friend of hers.

It's pretty much common practice for guys to talk about which celebrities they're attracted to and would like to rumble with. I don't think it's much of a stretch to assume that girls talk about it too, or at least, have the same kind of attractions. So I don't find her attraction to Hugh Jackman out of the ordinary; I wouldn't even be bothered about it to be honest. It's just natural (he is a bit of a handsome devil, aye, aye, aye ;)).

It's just a bit odd that she's made a status update about it. The very purpose of a status update is that it's not discreet; everyone, including you, see it. I wonder whether she would be a little weirded out if you made as status update about how attractive you found a female celebrity.

But I wouldn't worry, she probably doesn't mean anything by it. Lots of people make stupid status updates. Not everyone knows how to be as funny and on point, yet still completely socially aware and acceptable in a non-intruding yet influential way like me. Yea, my status updates are THE SHIT. ;)

I read on my girlfriend's wall that she was 'so in love with her honey bunny Hugh Jackman'. I mean, it's one thing to acknowledge that someone's attractive and another to say you're 'in love' with them. I don't think she literally means that but it still kind of hurts. Am I being ridiculous?

I really hope I'm not turning into one of those domineering boyfriends.

Yes, you're being ridiculous. Proffessing an undying love for a different boring celebrity each week is a standard girl maneuverer; comes packaged with other unexplainable girl behavior like their affinity for all things shiny, fluffy or pink.

Just ignore it and squeeze her boobs. Everyone wins.

lol trollpost?

in case it isnt, youre being dishonest by not expressing your feelings. do so. learn and grow from the resulting experience.

I honestly don't get this female obsession with celebrities. (I'd say "young female" but I know women in their 30s who still feel this way about certain famous men)

And no, I don't really know any guys who have "favorite female celebrities" (well except for a couple of guys on the outskirts of my social circle who'd I'd label as obnoxious "bro's" and I don't think they're representative of males in general).

Now, I wouldn't really be pissed about a gf of mine posting something like that, but I still think it's a sign of immaturity to feel that way about a random celebrity.

i do not consider talking to people at a bar cheating.

it is entirely different to say "i love so and so" and know the person. a better analogy would be the OP saying "i love random BLer" after seeing their picture in a picture thread.

Try not to be so jealous of stuff, turns girls off.

i wouldn't read anything in to it man, i have a crush on salma hayek. but i've more chance of winning the lottery, than ever doing anything with salma hayek. a man can dream though can't he.

but a little jealousy here might actually work in your favor for improving your relationship. next time you kiss her, smile.. make it genuine (if it's not, if you don't see the humor in your feelings and the "human condition", don't attempt this), and ask if it's better than Hugh. She will most likely laugh and .. more doors will open.

but nobody is considering the fact that they might work together (though unlikely, entirely possible). Hugh Jackman is just a man. We don't really know who it is we're talking to. Although most likely true- what you say... there's a small chance that it might actually be sort of disrespectful to say "like you have a chance", because there's a small chance that she does... and if she did, should he not be worried? considering the principal, i don't think it's the "chance" that she has or has not, that matters. it just seems flimsy, to me. a relationship, a healthy one, won't be so shallow. if it is, and there's no way to dig in, find some better dirt to plant your seeds.

But, I don't think she'd post it in a status update if they did.

God I feel dumb. I'm sorry.

You do realize that if she does get with Jackman that you have no chance, right?

His adamantium claws would rip through your flesh effortlessly.

Yeah, well the best thing to do is kidnap Hugh Jackman and send him to Russia this will take care of your problem... If you don't know already bluelight has strong connections within the Russian Mafia.

I think the whole celebrity worship thing is dumb, but I wouldn't get worked up over this. I dont think she is going to pursue a relationship with Hugh Jackman.

Tell her it's stupidest post you've seen since her friend updated she was about to go to the toilet.

it amazing what the internet has done to peoples emotions. They have the ability to say something that is in there mind yet they would not say around certain people in public.

In relation to relationships this has created a crazy spectrum of others reading the posts and or discovering new things or dont approve of there thoughts posted because others would read it and it represents them as a whole if they are together.

Maybe you really don't know your lover. . calm down and deal with reality.
