I think Kill Bill 2 is better because the bad guys are cooler. Michael Madsen, Darryl Hannah, and David Carradine are more bad ass than Vivica Fox, Lucy Liu, and the Crazy 88s. I also liked the Pai Mei subplot in Kill Bill 2. Anyhow, it seemed like an interesting thing to poll.

It's a toss up, I like each one for different things. I like the first for it's style and fun. I like the second for the dialogue and story (the campfire scene, Bill's monologue at the end, and pai may).

I don't think they'd work as one single film, the difference in presentation/style is pretty significant between the two.

The first one, because it works more like a comic book.

Although the best battle is the one in the campervan with darryl hannah.

that's ridiculous.

Here's my rationale.

The first one is fast paced, and ends with a huge fight in the House of Blue leaves . Where do you go from there? The second film slows down considerably in pace and I think the audience would feel a little underwhelmed by the final duel between Bill and the Bride considering the bloodbath that was the House of Blue leaves.

For me they worked better as two separate pieces. Of course they still work when watched back to back.

I don't believe the two can really be compared, as they were such different films. I haven't seen either in a long time, but as far as I can recall the first was mad fight scenes, a splatter-fest of gore and awesomely witty one liners, whereas the second was more story oriented, and an attempt at bringing it all together, tying up loose ends and completing the narrative. It really depends what mood you are in. Personally I enjoyed watching the first one more, that's just the way I am; but if you're the kind of person who needs full closure on all story issues then volume 2 was also good in it's own way.

2

the shit was awesome. i love both those movies, they one of the few movies i would actually buy because i know i would watch them over and over and over. shits too good.

2 was insane and i love how it came together at the end. 1 was sick too but it didnt have the depth of 2. i like the pai mei shit too especially how it came around in the end.

Totally agree with that... and your rationale was spot on too. :)

To say that the two do not work as one film is ridiculous, the entire project is an exercise in fusion of style. In Vol 2 the moods, styles & genres on display are constantly in flux, yet the movie remains completely coherent and plausible(within the realms of its own reality obviously). The two movies should be one---it was the studio that severed them in two, not the artist

One

I saw vol. 1 first and the story was not strong enough to support two movies. 1 had a good introduction with the black chick, some backstory, and then built up very nicely to a great climatic end. The second kind of went no where many times.

Plus, Pai Mei was in 2.

i like his dedication to the eastern more than the western. so basically i like kill bill 1 more than 2. that snow garden scene, and the blue screen scene in kill bill 1 were both nothing short of being absolutelyfuckingamazing, imo. :)

I like them both, I can't separate them, hence, I can't really say which one is better cause they work for me as a whole...

hiow can you say which is better - when infact they equal one whole movie that was just too long?

lol.

they both rock.

Correction. The Japanese version of the first one. Although the B&W during the battle is nifty, the colour and extra length make the film feel more whole.

a love them both ... but it seemed to me the first one kinda dragged on in parts ... or at least i remember thinking that when at the theater watching it the first time.
I never had that prob with the second one. but still so many great scenes make up the first, so it kinda evens it out.

hard to choose one over the other
