hello there everyone first off I would like to apologize because I'm new to this form and not very well verses are you guys operate here so I will be very quick and to the point. I have 2 questions basically question 1 is I have been doing dope for the past year I do about 2 to 3 bags a day, throughout the day. now with my habbit being such as it is how bad are my withdrawals going to be? I mean I hear horror stories about the things that people go through during withdrawal and I am scared shitless that my withdrawals are going to be that bad. However I am hoping that since my tolerance isnt super high and I do not take that much that's my withdrawal symptoms won't be all that bad. now my second question is this, I am starting my withdrawals tomorrow which is friday. I am starting friday because I am not going to be able to take time off from work and I heard that the worst of the withdrawals is in the first 3 days. is that time table accurate at all? am I going to be feeling better within 3 or 4 days? again I was hoping that since my habit isn't that big that's the withdraw would not be as long as someone with a much greater habit. thanks for any answers and formation at any of you all kids. It is greatly appreciated. I don't have any body to support me so even you guys on this forum help a great deal. and by the way I am going cold turkey. I know that it is very difficult to do it this way but I have no choice. I have a good job and just bought a house and if I do not quit I fear I may lose everything and that to me is a greater motivation to quit then the small joys I get from using. again thank you for any answers to this post it is appreciated.

by the way I apologize for any typos. I am typing this on my phone and im using the speech to text feature because it's much quicker than typing it all out on the small on screen keyboard but sometimes my phone gets a mind of its own and start typing things I did not even say. It's actually quite funny with some of the stuff it comes up with. Anyways again apologies for the typos and thanks again for any information.

MadHadder, good luck on your journey of getting clean........ive never had an addiction of heroin so I dont know what you're going through but from everything ive read on this site which is very informative, you are in the right place.

I would taper down a bit and put it off until next week if you can. Day 3 after your last dose is usually the worst, with day 2 and 4 being about the same. I would take the last dose relatively early next Thursday, this way you will be able to sleep that night, and begin to feel shitty by Friday, with the worst day being Saturday, feeling about the same or better by Sunday, and better by Monday.

You could also do a trial run this weekend to see how long you can make it before the withdrawals get that bad, this way you will have an idea of when you can stop and still make it through the work week. The first time I went through withdrawals it actully took about 3 days to start, and peaked on say 5, so obviously you don't want to find that out the hard way. This is why a little trial run would be your best bet, because we can't say with 100% certainty that either day 2 or day 3 will be the worst, and you will be getting better by day 4 or 5. You need to figure this out on your own, and better off using this weekend to figure it out, and then get it done the following weekend.

I would say days 2, 3, and maybe 4 are going to be the worst ones. You'll still feel shitty for quite a while after that but not to the point where you can't go to work. It is different for everybody though. I mean, your tolerance is low enough, that helps, but using daily for a year and then cold turkey, that's going to suck for sure. It will suck, but ride it through and you'll be okay. I actually just kicked a little over 2 weeks ago. Just don't cave in and start using again when it gets bad. It will pass. Try getting your hands on a few benzos if you can, they'll help with anxiety, help a little with sleep, and maybe do a little something for cravings. I've also heard that low doses of DXM can help but don't have experience to where I can confirm or deny. Good luck man.

Withdrawal sickness is very different for different people. The severity of symptoms and the amount of time they last are different for everyone. There is no way for us to predict how bad your withdrawals will be in advance. Have you never gone without dope for even a day before and seen what that felt like?

For most people, the most severe of the physical symptoms should be over within about 5-7 days. Days 2-4 are usually the worst - again, for most people. Mental symptoms like depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc can last much longer. There are a ton of threads on this forum about opiate withdrawal and ways to help lessen the symptoms. Personally I would definitely take time off work if remotely possible. And get someone you trust to help take care of you. It will also help you to be able to resist getting overwhelmed by cravings and running out to buy some dope if someone else is there with you who knows what you're going through. If you only have the weekend off work it will be very easy to convince yourself that you need to use heroin again just to be able to function for work. I would try to gradually taper off whatever dope you have left (take less each time) and get some meds, even just OTC ones, to help with the WDs.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask for support and encouragement on this forum :-)

EDIT: Personally I think the mental symptoms and strong cravings are the hardest part. Just keep reminding yourself that they are just being caused by the drug WD and that they will get better. It's like your brain thinks that you NEED heroin to live, and that feels very real, so just think of it as your addiction trying to trick you. Try to distract yourself.

Search Other Drugs for the Opioid Withdrawal Megathread, lots of good advice in there.

Personally, I can only recommend loperamide (Immodium) in higher than normal doses, it works wonders. I can easily work when on 40-50mg, and my habit seems worse than yours (1g H+ smoked a day, just for comparison, no dicksizing intended).

Try 20mg on day 2, wait 2 to 3 hours for it to kick in and see if you need more. Also lasts for a goods day for me, so it's very easy to taper down from. I'm a real convert lol, I mention it in every post.

As said above DXM seems to help as well, just don't do tripping doses. I find 100mg perfect. Benzos help a lot as well, just be careful not to get hooked on them, a benzo habit is worse than an H one imho.

Oh, and weed. But that depends, some people can't stand it in WDs, for others (me included), it's better than anything else.

This is very doable OP, especially since it's your first kick, they'll only get worse each time. Good luck man, stay strong.

Wow congrats man, your attempting something that not a lot of people do, and even less do successfully. I recommend you try to do anything but go cold turkey, you'll make it to day three but you'll probably have barely slept that night, and that whole day you'll be throwing up and having mad diarrhea. If you can do it and hang, more power to you but in my case, I had to be honest with myself that I just wasn't going to make it over that hump, thats why I entered a methadone program. Saying that its all about willpower and that if you were just a little stronger you would be able to quit cold turkey is all well and good but is attempting that and failing worse than going on methadone and succeeding? With methadone I've been clean longer than i've been in the past year.

The amount of heroin you are going through will not affect how long the withdrawal lasts; It will, however, affect the severity of the withdrawal you experience. If you are trying to go to work on monday after a weekend of kicking, you are going to want to have something for sleep like an ambien or a benzo like ativan, xanax or restoril. You don't want to consume a lot of the benzos because that would be just another difficult addiction to manage. But having a small supply to ensure you get some sleep is not out of the question.

As everyone else said you are going to want to check out the opiate withdrawal mega thread to see what other OTC medications you can assemble to minimize the suffering of your withdrawal.

PM me if you have further questions. Good luck bro

The withdrawals are only the first hurdle. And a very temporary one. You should be more focused on the second (life-long) hurdle of staying clean. Something that helps with both aspects is suboxone. Talk to a dr about it; it has helped a lot of my friends stay clean. Also, if you really want to stay clean, you must change people, places and things. You kinda have to reinvent yourself a little bit. Go to meetings, NA.

Goooood LUCK

Hey MadHadder. Like others have said Heroin withdrawal typically peaks on day 3 with things rapidly improving over the following couple of days. That will likely be the case regardless of how much or how little you've been doing coming up to the jump off point, though that will have a bearing on the intensity of withdrawal symptoms. By the end of day 5 you should be pretty much done, though you might still have some fairly mild and tolerable symptoms linger a little into day 6 / 7 before disappearing completely if you're unlucky, and it might take a coupla weeks before you're really sleeping properly again which does take its toll on you so try and get some sleepers at least to help you establish a pattern again. The withdrawal in some ways is the easy part, not that it could ever be called easy as such you understand. The post-withdrawal phase is where a lot of addicts fall down, thinking now they've broken the habit they can go back to recreational use occasionally. Often a fatal mistake that pulls you back into addiction so try not to fall into that trap, cos your addict brain will do it's best to persuade you to, trust me. The longer you resist that temptation the easier it gets, and eventually Heroin will lose its grip over you altogether and you'll never look back. Best of luck with it. You can beat this, no question.

BEE POLLEN!
Found at natural food stores! I am stopping by EVERY possible forum right now to tell people this who are going thru withdrawals! I took my jump 8 days ago and have suffered with acute withdrawals BAD until today. My pharmacist told me to go to a nature store and buy BEE POLLEN and now i could kiss him! I am feeling like a million bucks right now! USE THE GRANUALS found in refridgerator section. It says to start of with 3 granuals but as usual i dint listen and i took 6 or so and that was waaayyy too much. Tomorrow i will only take 3. This is ALL NATURAL... duh, its bee pollen, but i feel like im high, no joke... or at least i feel as good as i did when i was high. PASS THIS ON! I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE ARENT TALKING ABOUT THIS! I found this web site that tells u what it contains and what it does: www.thehoneybee.com
I was cleaning today and my face started to hurt and i realized it eas because i was SMILING! No joke! Smiling!

Really??!! ^^^

Good look and for every addict it's different. My wds always started immediately bc of my tolerance. GOOD LUCK!

I've never kicked before, and by that I mean that I've never really planned on kicking dope long-term and then made a stab at it.

I have, however, been without dope for a period of time... and this is what I've learned:

If I have no other opiates/opioids on hand, "cold turkey," in other words, then the first 24 hours are uncomfortable, but I'm still functional. I'm feeling the cold sweats, shakiness, bloated-ness, and nausea at about the 36 hour mark, and I'm less-than-productive at this point. I've never really gone beyond the 36 hour mark without dosing, and so beyond that I cannot say, but I would imagine that it gets worse, and I'm not sure that I'd be able to go to work at 48-72 hours.

I have also taken suboxone, and that's sort of what I'm doing now. I've learned that, used correctly (in very small doses), the difference is night-and-day. I have yet to jump off the suboxone, and I'll probably jump off sometime soon once I'm at a fucking crumb's worth (less than a mg), so I'm not yet sure what it's going to be like once I've tapered off the suboxone completely, but I feel really good about it and imagine that it should be much, much easier.

I don't plan on "staying clean," however, but when I'm ready to give all this up and pull my act together, I know one thing for sure: I'm doing it with suboxone and I'm doing it my way. (By "my way" I mean taking very, very small doses.)

I want to thank everybody who posted messages here in response to my questions about withdrawal. I am happy to announce that I am now about 72 hours since my last shot and to be quite honest I am feeling great. the first 2 days were pretty bad. From throwing up to sitting in a fetal position rocking back and forth wishing that I would just die. but I stuck with it and the worst of it is over for sure. I actually went in to work this morning and other than an upset stomach and a little bit of throwing up in the morning I am pretty much 100 percent feeling better. I couldn't put any food down this morning but by about 1 o clock I was drinking gatorade and eating a piece of chicken which 1 did the heaviest of lunches but at least I could hold it down and my stomach is feeling much better now. However I did take a previcid to help with the bile that my body was producing the few days before.
all and all I would say that my plan is to get over my habit were pretty successful so far. I am at the point where I know I could go without doing any more dope and I would be fine. now all I need to do is watch all of my sheets and things like that that works saturated in sweat when are pretty funky right now. I have them in the washer and that's pretty much the end of it again I want to thank everybody who gave me kind words of encouragement and I guess the battle really start here but I know that I do not want to have to go through this again and I think that going cold turkey was the best decision for me because I will always remember how bad it really was and that alone will be a deterent.

Versa- ur doin it right w sm doses of the subs, dont rely on them. Its harder to w/draw from subs then straight up H. Dont use them for longer than 2 wks. I am on day 13 after jumping from one month if subs after a heroin addiction and still not the athlete i was. My friend on the same time after weaning from the H and he's far better than me right now. Not perfect, but better. I will never get why doctors are putting addicts on subs long term especially at such high doses. Money game my guess
