Ketamine (-HCl) 6 years expired - still effective?

Hi,

I have found a little bottle of Ketaminehydrochloride ("Exalgon"), which is far beyond its expiry date (which was in 2003).

I read that fluid solutions are less stable than non-fluid, hard forms of drugs, e.g. pills, which - on average - still possess 90% of their original efficacy five years after expiration (source: www.medknowledge.de/abstract/med/med2003/9-2003-13-verfallsdatum-medikamente.htm).

The standard shelf life of Exalgon is declared with three years.
 
Important thing would be that it is not used in the mean time. If it is still sealed and never used it should be OK, maybe a little less potent but you can compensate for that. :)
Could be that I'm clueless as to some unhealthy degradation product here but although possible I do not deem it likely.

If you do decide to proceed be sure not to take a whole lot the first time and be attentive to all the effects. And or wait for someone to confirm my suspicions. ;)

The bottle is originally sealed, has never been opened / used in the meantime.
I am only a bit angry about the thing with the expiry date, because the one I have it from did not tell me about that. So if someone could give a precise answer referring to the remaining effectiveness I would be very pleased and in the worst case call my money back (since we are actually friends it should not be a big problem).
 
Just try it man.

I really doubt it is going to hurt you.
And even if it is 90% pure, thats still probably at least ...30% more pure and uncut than the shit you find on the street.

So i really hope you enjoy yourself. And that the ketamine hasn't transformed into a different unknown substance....

OK, thanks for your answers, I see I am a bit annoying to you with this :) ...think I will just try and hopefully enjoy my first keta-experience.
 
Chlorobutanol hemihydrate is the only additional ingredient of the 6 year expired "Exalgon" (K-HCl). Must I fear any implications when using it i.m. (I do not think that I will try it i.v.) or should I better take it only nasally?
 
yea... Nose > IV in this scenario....

Its probably fine, but to err on the safe side, i would avoid the needle...
 
Thanks for your advice, jamaica. I let it dry out at room temperature yesterday and gained 1,16g of pretty crystalline K-HCl. I am really looking forward now to my first ketamine experience.

Sorry for having forgotten my own thread. For those who are (still) interested: also long-expired keta seems to hold a good portion of its original efficiacy. In other words: I had some nice experiences with it (although one was disrupted by the appearence of my parents at my door).

Anyway, my impression got strengthened that I am obviously not a disso-type. The feelings which got revealed, when I was on shrooms, felt more real, so real, that I was fully convinced of them even after the trip. I knew it: "Yes, this was 'the truth'". Comparing those experiences with the ones i gathered on dissociatives, the latter were surely very interesting too (so I travelled through galaxies at the speed of light and was all knowing), but after the trips, back in the normal world and in my standard state of consciousness, there wasn't a similiar feeling of having experienced "the pure truth". Nevertheless, it was also very, very trippy ; )
 
That other ingredient you listed is a preservative. I'm pretty sure I remember discussing how long ketamine solutions last before and finding out that, sealed at least, it's good long after the expiration date, like for 10 years or more. If a solution makes it as long as yours did and isn't cloudy it's probably sterile and still effective. The chemical breakdown products of a drug so widely used for injections are unlikely to hurt you.

Ketamine alone never left much of an impression on me at any dose. I highly recommend mixing it with mushrooms, 4-AcO-DMT or DPT. It makes a massive difference.

Thanks for your advice. I think I will put some of the left K aside and mix it with some mushrooms this summer.
