Keeping weed recreational

Ok, so I've been smoking weed for roughly 7 years now. Smoke it in a spliff mixed 50/50 with baccy. For most of that period I would say I am addicted to weed. I smoke it every day, I usually have a joint on the drive to work etc.

Now I've decided to have a month off weed, starting yesterday. I've done this before, and I've got sleeping tablets so that shouldn't be a problem.

My main issue is, when I finish my month, how can I keep it recreational. I just want to be able to sit down once a week or so and have a smoke, similarly as to how I do now with alcohol.

My first idea is to cut out the baccy. I don't like smoking bongs or pipes, but maybe if I just have small one skinner pure joints that would help.

After that though, I'm lost! It's weird, when I've had breaks in the past I really have no urge whatsoever to start smoking again, until when I do, then I'm back into the cycle of smoking all day every day. Maybe just how alcoholics say they can't touch a drop after they've quit, the same goes for myself and weed :(

hello, well my advice (im pretty much at a point where i can go a week/month without smoking, smoke a week straight, or just a day or a week or anything and it doesnt effect me, took me time to get there, all i did was keep telling my self, theres no point getting hi "alone" or right now because ill be at work and ill just sober up, kept telling myself that, now i tend to just smoke when i get home (although somedays i make up for it),

to me its all mental, weed i dont need, i enjoy, and i tell myself that. I wouldnt go to work drunk, so i shouldnt go stoned (that to me is a professionalism thing, and nothing else). (i understand the mundane jobs where getting stoned helps, i have one of them, but so far ive been doing good. Also, if it matters, tell your self your gunna "reduce".

if you smoked 2 g a day, 1 during the day when ur doing your dutys and 1 during the night, thats 14 a week, cut out the 1 during the day and now you saved 70 bucks a week.

Finding a mental reason is how i do it.

Cheers man, although I really have tried to keep it to night time. The problem is when I've got weed I just want to smoke it constantly. For example say its a week till payday and I'm skint, but I've got say an eighth of weed left. Rather than just having a couple of joints each night and making that eighth last till payday I end up smoking it all in a few days and having none for the rest of the week.

Hopefully cutting out the baccy will do it. I don't smoke fags so I just hope I'm addicted to the nicotine.

If I got it, I smoke it. So I don't buy more than I want to smoke and don't buy again until an appropriate time has passed. Been abler to keep it to about 2 days a month for the last couple of months.

Good advice here. Buy less, saves some money too.

I agree with above, if you have it around you're gonna smoke it.
Maybe enlist a friend in helping you - like make some ground rules: maybe you can only smoke around him/her, you can't buy your own weed, you only buy a single joint from him a week. An arrangement like that.

Mark your calendar religiously when you use. It helps to see how much you've done, as both motivation and reminder. And just remember if you slip up, that doesn't give you permission to start smoking every day again. Every day is a new day and seriously commit yourself to keeping it recreational. Even if you smoke 7 days in a row, don't let that discourage you. You can and will bring it back to once a week!

And I'm totally okay with positive reinforcement. Maybe put all or part of that money you WOULD'VE spent on weed - whether it's $20/wk or $50, idk, whatever it is - in a jar or whatever, and see how much you saved! Maybe get yourself something nice when you make it 1 month, 3 month, 6 month marker, etc.

"What gets measured gets managed"

My suggestion -- take photos of the weed every time before you smoke.

I got this idea out of a book. It works with dieting apparently (http://www.flashdiet.org/)

Here's a quote:
"The curious case of the so-called “flash diet” is a prime example of the difference. Dr. Lydia Zepeda and David Deal of the University of Wisconsin–Madison enlisted 43 subjects to photograph all of their meals or snacks prior to eating. Unlike food diaries, which require time- consuming entries often written long after eating, the photographs acted as an instantaneous intervention and forced people to consider their choices before the damage was done. In the words of one participant: “I was less likely to have a jumbo bag of M&Ms. It curbed my choices. It didn’t alter them completely, but who wants to take a photo of a jumbo bag of M&Ms?”

Make the times you do it more special. Dont be afraid to spend money on high quality shit and prepare yourself for a fun/relaxing night, rather than just doing what you always do stoned on a normal basis.

It is hard to keep it recreational for one simple reason. Weed doesn't fuck with you too much, it just makes you chill out and appreciate little things... and it works, all the time. Sometimes you can trip out a little when smoking some real dank, and smoking much, but hey
Sure you could smoke once a week, but why not chill and get high the next day, I got some weed left.. It just happens time and time again.

Good luck on cutting it to once a week tho, its a good thing, but it's really hard to pull off.

Maybe smoking only fridays to sundays is more okay? You get done at work, get home friday night and now you can smoke throughout the weekend.. Its easier than ONE DAY a week for sure.
Monday - friday you're busy working anyway, so it should be easy to keep it to weekends, if once a week fails

You need to have some restraint and self control. But, being cannabis it is not as damaging as a regular use of a different drug. I suggest instead of smoking make some edibles and have one or two a week to wind down and relax. At least 1 gram of hash is what I recommend if your tolerant to the effects of cannabis. If not then .5 of flower will work. The effects of eating cannabis are greatly different from smoking. Maybe since the experience is more intense you won't feel the need to get high all the time. Besides, it just sounds like your addicted to the act of smoking tobacco and cannabis rather than being addicted to the plant.

it depends if you're an addict or not.
I'm a drug addict and can't use anything in moderation.
good luck on your journey.

its not the tobacco in your joints, weed is difficult to use in moderation for certain personality types

at the moment i think that for my self at least its like im a weedaholic, and i cant really touch a drop before i start becoming a stoner

Lots of people are like this especially if we are addicts or have an addictive personality. I dont use it now but when I did smoke and use herb if I started smoking regularly on weekends I'd quickly get into smoking a lot daily and stay stoned all day.

the tobacco is the more more addictive of the 2 that your rolling with.

i use a small thin line of baccy in joints to help it burn, i dont like 'oldskool' joints loaded with baccy they are just spicy fags to me.

Its hard to keep weed use recreational if you make a habit, if your smoking all day every day the first mission is to only smoke it at night, once you've done that cutting back on days might be achieveable

agreed.

From personal experience, weed is by far the easiest drug to find and to obtain. With that being said, It's my most often used drug - though not my DOC. I digress; anyway, I am the kind of person who can't spend five minutes on this earth sober. I find everything miserable, and hate life when I am not high. Due to that I smoke every single day. Now I don't know what your situation is, and I am not going to speculate because that would be ignorant on my part. All I can say is if you have a problem with it now, you're going to have a problem with it for the rest of your life - this is just my opinion. I have a very similar situation with alcohol. I'm pretty much a borderline alcoholic. I go to school drunk, I drive drunk, and I can't keep it down to a simple recreational level. Now, I haven't stopped drinking because I'm a stubborn fuck. However, my best advice to you is to either just stop, or don't buy it. Get smoked up by a friend every once in a while instead. This will enhance the "recreational" value of marijuana since you are with a friend while doing it, and since you're smoking with someone else you won't smoke as much as you would if you had the same amount and were by yourself. People say marijuana isn't addictive but I disagree. When I was in high school I knew kids who bought their weed in change - something I thought was only occurring with people who were addicted to harder drugs (heroin, meth, crack, etc). In conclusion, your best bet is either to just stop completely or stop paying for it and only smoke when it is offered to you. This will eliminate the problem of daily usage - just in my opinion.

My relationship with weed has changed a lot over the years. Initially I was a chronic smoker. Any weed I had on me would be gone within a couple days, and I smoked mostly on my own, but also with friends. Then I went travelling and I stopped using regularly for about 3-4 years. The only time I had any during that time was when someone else would offer me some in foreign countries, but I was never in one place long enough to really procure my own supply.

As of the past couple of years, for some reason the only time I smoke is with other people. I have weed in the drawer right next to me but I don't feel that itch to go smoke it. It's like I've done a complete 180. IIRC, things really changed after my ketamine regimen.

It's just weed, simply save enough only for a gram. Make that gram last you X amount of time. If you smoke too much weed before the time's up then you have to quit for an extra week. You can train yourself to do anything, seriously it's easier then it sounds.

Goodluck!
