expiring patents new horizon or new regulations . . . .

While our nation faces an impending fiscal cliff with expiring tax cuts, spiraling entitlements, and a dreaded sequestration, another year-end deadline is approaching that has deadly consequences - the expiration of patents on the original formulations of highly addictive prescription pain pills like OxyContin.

These so-called "long-acting opioids" were billed as the next wonder drugs; solutions to chronic pain with low risk of addiction. In reality, crushing early versions of these drugs created a powerful, and sometimes deadly, high - totally overwhelming communities. Suddenly and without warning, in the quiet hills in my region of Appalachia, these drugs intended to manage pain were creating pain in the form of overdoses, crime and uncontrollable addiction......

Interesting read! I personally think they need to concentrate on bigger issues than a pill. Alchohol kills more people than OxyContin. Sure I'm probably a lil biased with my opinion but I say bring back the crushables. Atleast the addicts will know what and how much there doing.

I never understood why basically the entire focus of anti-abuse Pharms is put on oxy. What about other more powerful "crushables" like hydromorphone, oxymorphone, morphine, etc. shooting oxy and eating oxy basically have the same power/Bioavailability. However, hydromorphone, Oxymorph, and morphine all have way dramatically more powerful effects when injected

What's the final verdict on the oral efficacy of the uncrushable oxys?

For me personally, the ER versions were about 60% as effective, but obviously lasted longer. E.g. Back in the day took 600mg IR would have me nodding good without puking, and about 1100mg ER would get the peak high in the same spot, taking longer to come up and longer peak/effect.

I never understood shooting or snorting oxy, tried both many times, always found it was a huge waste as both would get you high for maybe 1/10 the time as an oral dose, with minimal BA gained, oral oxy is very efficient

Absolutely no good comes from tighter controls in any way shape or form. It will only make things worse. Addicts will just do heroin instead which they wont know the purity or cuts of and legitimate chronic pain sufferers like me have their already hard life made even harder.

Yeah but how do they compare to the old Oxys, orally? Are they equi-analgesic?

Also, you have the tolerance of a minor god.

^ I'd say they were virtually identical, the ER formula maybe providing slightly less analgesia if you take into account it lasts much longer.

And as for tolerance, yea, once you jam a heroin filled needle into your arm there's no going back, having a high tolerance is absolute hell, although I used to admire people popping multiple 80s in 1 shot. Thank god these days I'm on 2mg x3 daily Suboxone, so tolerance is probably halved now

It's funny, new users look at veteran junkies and admire their ability to take dosages that could kill a small town, and veterans look with intense jealousy at newbs staying high for days off a dime bag. Sorry for off topic

lol 10-year IV heroin user here. 320 mg of oxycodone is the peak for me. I can't imagine being able to survive 1100 mg!

I'm just saying that so you take it slow if you ever go back.

I was that way with weed lol. After two hits, I would have to pass the bowl every time cause I'd be out of this world. Now, I can smoke a blunt to the face. It was odd returning to smoking and being able to get high from so little when I use to burn 1/8th a day.

Hal Rogers is a dip-shit.

"In my region" - prick.

Ah you lucky duck, I admire your self control. If I am on any opiate except buprenorphine I just gobble that shit down. It probably didn't help that where I'm from the tar heroin is insanely pure and cheap and everywhere
