Kava Dosage

A friend asked me what was the most kava she could take, and I wasn't really sure. So, here we are.

I guess it would depend on the % of kavalactones. Taking this into consideration, if using standardized root powder/extracts/paste, what do you think?

It really varies from extract to extract, and from vendor to vendor, etc.

Best way is to take the recommended dosage and take it from there.

Today I had 8 grams of Root Power from Vanuatu.

Its really high quality stuff and I took it in for parachutes with a glass of milk and It made me feel superb.

When you make a water extraction you waste loads of it, better of just throwin it down the hatch. :)
 
thanks Neighborhood! to ^ and ^^, yeah, I guess trial and error is the best advice. Start slow and work one's way up is always good advice. I'll just tell her that.
 
That is the best way to do it. Kava does work but sometimes you have to take a lot for anything to happen. My two cents is if that is the case, avoid using the pills, as just the sheer number of pills/capsules that you're eating is enough to make some people nausea or other stomach issues.
 
Okay, so she's still wondering if there is any kind of universal ceiling, whether in terms of the drug(s) not working any more or in terms of toxicity.

Also, she's on 10mg lexapro - would this effect using kava?
 
I'm not exactly sure, although higher dosages of kava consumed for long periods of time have shown to cause liver damage. One time usage isn't going to cause that, however. This article may of interest to you and/or your friend.

I doubt the lexapro would interact with the kava.
 
I've taken absurd amounts of kava before and it never did too much
my friend who lives in hawaii came back to GA to visit his family and brought back a giant bag of kava powder. mixed it with water, filtered it with a shit a couple times, drank 2 big glasses until I couldn't stand anymore. We must have used 30-45 grams between 3 people, I wouldn't worry about taking too much

The traditional way is the most wasteful way of doing Kava.... You get a very small amount when using water.

Best thing to make an extract is a high-proof alcohol.
 
It's absurd to not mix this with anything. It adds a nice level of sedation to benzos and more euphoria due to it's dopamine reuptake inhibiting actions..
