I have been on a kava kick the last week or so. I am on buprenorphine once a day (1.8mg) and it seems as though when I drink kava, I get a little tightness in my chest near my heart. I know kava is a strong muscle relaxant so could there be a dangerous interaction here? I woke up a 9am and drank a bunch of STRONG kava before I take my dose today and I am not feeling any of the tightness that I usually experience in the evenings.

Do I need to just drink through the tightness? Maybe it's just a sign the kava is starting to work. Any of y'all have experience with kava on opiates?

I've had Kava and Opiates before and not had adverse reactions, it might be something else causing the chest tightness. If it continues, I'd go and see your GP.

Regards

It probably is the combination if anything. Buprenorphine nor methadone ever gave me those symptoms, but I've been in the ICU several times after using heroin for extended period of times with violent asthma attacks. I believe it has to do with the histamine release

I've had this with Kava, Gabapentin, and Tapentadol (SNRI opioid similar to Oxycodone in strength). I found it difficult to breathe after smoking cannabis, and I thought I was on the verge of an OD, even though it made no sense since the dosage I took was reasonable (150mg Tapentadol).

Znegative, the histamine release idea is interesting.
