Hi Guys:
I am trying to solve a mystery, at least it's a mystery to me.In the past 3 months I have intermittently taken the following opiates for my chronic pain: Tramadol, propoxyphene(not since I took a few too many though),methadone, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and morphine. Most of the time I only take tramadol or Hydro, because it's the easiest to get and seems to be the easiest on my body.My doctor has only given me Oxy-Contin a few times, but everytime I get my hands on ANY form of oxycodone it's always followed by a distinct ( because I have been through it too many times ) VERY INTENSE rebound depression/mood swings 12 or so hours after the LAST dose.
I just read this on Opioids.com:
"In addition, there is interest in the co-administration of opioids that act on different receptors. For instance, oxycodone appears to be a kappa opioid receptor agonist and may offer enhanced analgesia when combined with morphine. . ."
I have read somewhere that the Kappa receptor is sometimes said to be associated with and to cause dysphoria, could this be the reason I get so depressed after coming off of Oxy? What is weird about it is that I can be taking something else that day, methadone, whatever , and I still feel bad.
I am getting where I almost refuse any form of oxy because it's the only drug that gives me this intense rebound depression.I almost dropped out of school last week: and all of a sudden I was better.
I didn't feel better till I started back on the Ultram.
I am talking cry all day long , can't get out of bed, can't do anything type of deppression. It never lasts more than 2 days though. I can always count on it being gone after it runs it's course.
It may be the fact that I was so used to taking Tramadol, then I got the Oxy which lasted a week or more, and I don't usually combine opiates now so I stopped taking it while I had the Oxy.I am just glad it is over, the depression that is.
Anyway, any input is appreciated.
~w

[EDIT - Ok, if you provide an answer then you can make some smartass comment about "you can give that unwanted oxycodone to me" .. but if you have NOTHING to add to the thread please keep such comments to email! - PhreeX]
