so i am doing a research study in a little over a month and they take a piss test first to make sure you have no drugs in your system. i was planning on just sticking to spice but i just found out it is now a schedule 1 drug, does that mean they can drug test for it ?

Redwood labs has a JWH-018 and JWH-073 test, although it is order separately from their standard 10 panel drug test. Only the old blends contain the banned chemicals. Ones sold now should only have the legal ones, which can work just as well.

JWH-250 as well. They offer both urine and saliva testing for the JWH drugs. According to their website, the urine test detects metabolites while the saliva test detects the parent drug. For what it's worth, the detection window is small for both.

JWH-018 and it's analogues are illegal (like 073). JWH-250 and some obscure others are still legal because they aren't structurally similar enough to be covered.

They may ban all of the JWH's eventually, because I don't think Huffman is still putting them out, but other synthetic cannabinoids are popping up all the time. That's why the War on Drugs is a huge waste of tax dollars. People trying to get high will find a way to get high.
