That the Great White North is in the hands of a Communist tyrants bastard son!!!

It's a damn scandal I tell you!

Yeah, nah. I don't think it really would mean anything, but it's definitely the type of story that would spark international spectacle and scandal if it were ever proven or even widely discussed. I'm honestly surprised it's not more widely known, this is the first I've heard of it.

Right

it's really not that big of a deal that Fidel's son is running the show in Canada to continue the Castro legacy beyond the shores of Cuba

it's like the Austrian boy who went to Germany

hey ya know, sometimes i wonder how the NYC accent came to be - originally it was a bunch of rednecks from England right?

how did that happen?

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro:

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.

“Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.

“While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante”.

“I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

Trudeau has a long record of affinity for authoritarian governments.

In 2013, before he was prime minister, he was asked what country he admired most. Trudeau answered, “You know, there’s a level of admiration I actually have for China because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime and say ‘we need to go green fastest…we need to start investing in solar.’ I mean, there is a flexibility that I know Stephen Harper must dream about, of having a dictatorship that he can do everything he wanted, that I find quite interesting.”

Comparing Castro to Hitler in any way is irresponsible and ridiculous.

theyre all turds in the same toilet to me

now listen here

Fidel's dad is from Spain

people have blue eyes in Spain (true story)

"Fidel Castro jailed and tortured political prisoners at a higher rate than Stalin during the Great Terror. He murdered more Cubans in his first three years in power than Hitler murdered Germans during his first six."

I always shake my head when people imply Hitler and his 6 million was the worst atrocity and "forget" Stalin slaughtering tens of millions in the name of Communism

Only good commie is a dead commie!

Stalin didn't kill tens of millions of people. If you look at the actual numbers and census statistics, or do even a small amount of research, you will see that these numbers are completely arbitrary and exaggerated for the sake of western propaganda.

Here's one good Quora post about it, but there's plenty more stuff out there.

And yes, kill the people that want to alleviate the suffering under capitalism and restore power to the working class 🤔🤦

deficit's a commie sympathizer

why do all of the ceps mods have to be far leftists?

cmon
God damn right I am, I'm no mere sympathizer, I have studied Marx, Engels, Lenin, Mao, etc. At length. As well as weirdo "libertarian" capitalists such as Murray Rothbard and Hayek. So I've done more than enough studying to reach the understanding that I have.

I was born for this role baby.

I have no desire to limit anyone's freedom of expression, or unfairly crack down on conservatives, no matter how much I disagree with them. In fact, there are plenty of opinions I hold in common with conservatives and libertarians, and I was a free market libertarian at one point.

But, I'm still gonna call bullshit on dumb things the right passes off as fact 🤷 all to maintain a healthy dialogue of course

stalin killed over 45 million people. Genocides across eastern europe and siberia.

Nope, not a thing. There was no genocide. There was a famine, and there were gulags, but they certainly weren't death camps and there was certainly no genocide. This is again just propaganda repeated since the cold war.

Not saying Stalin didn't do anything wrong, or that he was great, but his crimes have been exaggerated to the point of nonsense. Most of the time, all of the achievements and progress made by leaders like Stalin and Castro are disregarded to instead push forward lies about their actions. All the while ignoring all of the crimes capitalist empires like the US have committed in the past and are still committing.

Let's talk about how many have been killed in the proxy wars of the United States next. And then how many people die from poverty, scarcity, and homelessness in the west after that.

I guarantee you it dwarfs even the false numbers you can spit out about Stalin or Castro or whoever.

Even if that were true, capitalism itself kills that many people every five years.

It's not even close to being a contest. Capitalism is built on the bones and ruins of the working poor and minorities.

Not even getting into the destruction wrought by imperialism that is a direct result of profit motivated economy.

@deficiT

so you're an anti-capitalist first or a marxist first?

when did you decide that capitalism is shit and marxism is the way? did one come before the other is what im asking

I'm not opposed to capitalism necessarily, I just view it as ineffective at providing the most people with a quality standard of living. Sure, it has definitely been an improvement over feudalism as far as moving people forward and growing an economy, but progress must still march forward further.

The thing with Marxism is that it understands the successes of capitalism, recognizes that it's a necessary stage of human and economic development, and seeks to move to the next stage and build a better world after capitalism.

Most people haven't actually read Marx, they simply oppose it for contrarian or moral reasons, and thus, they don't really understand how great of an analysis of capitalism that he had, in regards to labor value, use value, etc. He recognized that capitalism lifted many out of poverty, but that as the working class formed, they were trapped in a position where they had to basically sell portions of their life off to the "owners" to scrape by.

THAT is what I'm opposed to. Money simply governs everything, profit is reaped no matter the human cost or toll, and the great majority of human beings never achieve self actualization or find a manner of contentment. Those achievements are reserved for the most powerful among us, in most cases.

i hear ya

so you agree with it in a sort of labor union kind of way?

a long time ago, right after the soviet union collapsed, i was talking to a girl from the czech republic, and she asked me what the labor unions were all about, and i briefly explained them to her and how they worked, and she said "oh - that's just like communism", and after that, i understood it all differently

but i still think communism is a failure in a George Orwell's Animal Farm kinda way....it works in theory but not in practice
