Benzos Just started on Methedone - Help me not OD adding Alprazolam (Xanax)?

Longs story short: I have severe pancreatitis and rheumatoid arthritis. I'm in severe pain every day. MY doctor prescribed 120mg oxy per day (combo OCs and roxys). I told him a dozen times it wasn't enough, I was still in a lot of pain, couldn't sleep etc. He never raised the dose, not even by 10mg.
So, right or wrong, I starting buying my own oxy too. I ended up taking around 230mg a day. For the first time I was almost pain free. I could function and actually get through the day like a normal person.
I got caught.
Anyway. Not I'm being put on methadone because of my "addiction" (apparently using painkillers to stop your pain is abusing them). I got given 25mg in small increments throughout today (it's my first day).
They basically admitted I was gonna feel like shit tonight but that I'd get 25mg next morning nd more added as needed. This is gonna happen for 3 days to find the correct dose of methadone for me.

I also take tested positive (they did a piss test) for benzos. I told them right off "I'm gonna test positive for opiates and benzo's, nothing else" but they tested me anyway. I was right. They told me they "don't do" benzo tapers and that I needed to slowly taper myself off them by myself.

What's a safe amount so I don't OD mixing the two but so I don't seizure from benzo withdrawal? (I've had 6 really bad seizures from alcohol withdrawal before)?
I usually only take 0.5mg 3 times a day and 1mg at night.
 
Try and get hold of a longer acting benzo like valium or clonazapam as they are much easier to taper as the benzo stays in your body much longer so you won't need to dose more than once a day maybe twice a day for first week or so. I know where you are mate I'm on methadone 72.5mg per day and have had on off addiction to xanax for years thank god now only maybe 1 or 2 times a month but I'm prescribed 10mg valium per day with my methadone. Good luck with it buddy

I've been told I'll likely be on 70mg a day :)

Got myself some valium :) got the 2mgs so I can titrate the doe down easily. Take 10 now to equal my Xanax dose. Gonna take a half (1mg) less each day. It's a very slow taper but I've never been mentally that reliant on benzos so it should be easy and pain-free too :).

LOL, well I can say that I am in SOMEWHAT similar situation but not at all the same. I don't use opiates and that is a HIGH mother fucking dosage u were on...its probably better u got pinched because 230 mg's of oxy a day will end ur life eventually....but anyway I am tapering from xanax and I was originally on 3.0 mg's daily and would binge up to 5 mg's daily maybe more in combo with alcohol...I tapered using xanax even though I know the recommendation is to get valium, but I just used what I have available..
If you take it slow, I AM SURE you will be okay....you seem to be doing well with controlling your benzo use as you say, so I would drop .25 mg's every two weeks, maybe every week if you are a REALLY strong individual. Now that you have valium, things should be cake as far as the benzo taper goes. BUT idk about that opiate situation. Best of luck, dont let us down...and most important, dont let yourself down

Most people don't believe I take that 300 on average and can take 600mg in a day (nodding, but nowhere near ODing) when they see me 'cause I weigh like 110lb (7st12lb/48kg) haha.
Unlike opiates, the benzo taper is very easy for me. I'm not even "stopping" them. Just like to use them sparingly usually and I've been using them daily for a while now. Only 3 weeks, but I'm mentally uncomfortable with the thought of getting into the habit of it, or being physically dependent on them. I'm 7 month sober from a 3 year alcohol addiction. I went through withdrawal seizures with that, I am NOT doing it again with benzos.

Good luck with your tapering! If you're still doing it? Remember SLOWLY. Not meaning to scare you but (as you probably know already) benzo withdrawal can be fatal. Go very slow even if you feel well. My first time with alcohol taper I thought was fine. I felt randomly weird and almost stoned for a couple minutes, stood up to get a drink just-in-case and BOOM grand mal seizure. You don't always feel the sweats and shakes first.
