SUFENTANIL and Propofol. Yes, Sufentanil. The derivative of Fentanyl that is 10x more potent. When the Dr. told me this I nearly fainted. I thought, how in the hell is that safe? A barbituate like hypnotic, and one of the most powerful opiates IV'd into me and making me unconscious? No wonder Anasthesiologists are amongst the highest paid doctors and need the most training, that sounded so incredibly dangerous to me before my procedure I almost had a panic attack.
I will say, this only induced "light sedation" (I was still breathing on my own....somehow...) and I felt a fairly significant rush before slightly losing consciousness. It was pretty cool. But still pretty eye opening/unexpected. And I definitely had an opiate "afterglow" when I fully regained consciousness from the procedure.
I guess from an HR standpoint, make DAMN sure you tell the Dr.s what you've taken/and are on in honest, legitimate doses before ANY pain management procedure because they sometimes administer extremely powerful meds into your body and moderate the dose based on your tolerances and what meds you're on. If I had popped a couple Kpins the morning of the procedure because I was nervous, this could have been a pretty bad day...
