just got prescribed duragesic

So i'm waiting to get this script filled, its a "duragesic" patch , lowest dosage, like 25 mcg or whatever the "beginner" patch is.

i've been on 7.5 mg vicodin for almost a year (120 per month) so my doc decided i was at a high enough tolerance level to be prescribed the patch.


my question is, i dont want to wait 6 hours or whatever for it to kick in, i'm hearing they dont have the gel in them anymore and besides smoking is dangerous, what is some way i can make it work faster and be more intense without dying?

i've read cut them in half and chew them? but i dont get it, if its like a bandaid, you just chew on a bandaid? i know it sounds simple but i dont want to do it wrong and die.

the patch itself you place on a body part, sounds great but like i said i dont want to wait 6 hours for releif, with my hydrocodone its maybee 10 minutes and i start feeling better.

thanks. i havent gotten the patch yet so i dont know the brand or form it comes in etc, this is my first prescription for the patch. but i'm sure its fentanyl and that they dont make the kind with gel anymore.

i have a script for both the patch and the 10/325 mg vicodin for simultaneous use, prescribed by my doc. so i dont want to take a bunch of vicodin and then put on a patch and die, surely my doc would have thought that wasnt the case, but if i chew it, and take vicodin will i be ok? should i not take vicodin while chewing the patch? or wait a while? like a few hours after taking some vicodin and then chew the patch?

i have a substantial tolerance but by no means the highest , i would say moderate.

just put the patch on and take your vicodin as needed so your comfortable. a 25 mch per hour patch contains 2.5ish milligrams of fentanyl. roughly equivilant to ~250 mg of morphine. Be careful chewing half of the patch as it may be more than you expect. Its not band-aid material btw.

ok i got it finally, its a clear patch with gel so i guess they do still prescribe them.

i've had the patch on for a few hours now, still nothing. but i read bad things about smoking or putting it in your mouth, its the 25 mcg so should i just cut half of one and put it in my mouth, or put the gel on a q tip? how to administer for bigger bang for my buck it was pretty expensive even from the doctor.

my friend gave me a patch his mom had after she died it was the same but it was more like a white strip than this square strip, i didnt cut it up i just put the whole thing in my mouth for a few hours, i puked once but after that i was fine. not sure the dosage on that one, but the ones now are 25

Be careful, I'm far from an expert on fentanyl, but alot of people with far higher tolerances than you have died on t.

well thats why i'm asking, i tried chewing one a few years ago when i had less tolerance (was just taking darvocet instead of vicodin) and i got pretty messed up but never felt like near death.

even though i have the gel i am not going to smoke it cause it sounds too dangerous, however, i am looking for a better time than just sticking it to my arm cause i get nothing from it, no pain relief at all, from what i can tell vicodin does better, i'm sure if i took it in some other way than sticking it to my arm it would work better. but the last one i chewed didnt have gel all over it like this one and i'm not sure how to take it sublingually or whatever it is (by mouth).

its the weakest dose so i'm pretty sure i'd be safe to chew on half one. all it does is keep me from sleeping. and its really expensive as my insurance sucks if i'm paying that much i'd at least like a mild buzz or something.

i tried putting some of the gel on the qtip and putting it on my gums all it did was make me sleepy. i heard good things about fentanyl so far i'm dissapointed.

I was prescribed the 25 mic patch 8 or 9 years ago. I remember when I put it on I felt it almost immediately. I quickly went to the 50 than 75 mic patch. The doc was giving me 30mg ms contin for BT pain and I remember I’d take the patch off after the 3 days (72 hrs) and before I’d put the new patch on I’d take a shower to scrub that sticky shit from the patch off my body.

A couple times I’d forget for a couple hours to put the patch back on and I remember I didn’t feel any different. The ms contin I was taking was stronger than the patch. That’s when I stopped using the patch all together.

I never tried to suck the stuff out of the patch but I had a friend who did. He was on a pretty high dose of methadone and said he didn’t feel shit from the goop in the patch

I know how people say those patches are real strong but I built a tolerance pretty quick and it didn’t take long before they didn’t do shit for me

yeah i really get nothing from the patch cept it makes me sleepy.

how do i get my doctor to take me off the patch and give me some oxycontin or something instead? what do i say to him? i cant say i get sleepy from it or that it makes my stomach sick or something cause then she probably wouldnt even give me oxycontin cause i think they do the same thing. they dont really make me sick but they just have no effect and if im going to pay that much for pain meds i damn sure want it to work well.

Yea, I was not impressed with fent... it's okay if you want to slap a patch on and then get high on some pills.. it lowers your tolerance while you're on it.. other than that I think it's junk. I decided to not eat or smoke it because I don't want to die..

If you want off the patch tell your dr it is giving you headaches, sweats and making your irritable. Also complain they don't stay stuck on... say you spent more on tape to keep it on than you did the script.. That's what I said, but it was true in my case and my dr switched me.
