So I have been constipated for quite some time from opiates, maybe 2 months or so and I have been on oxycodone for maybe 3 months, recently my doctor prescribed me a stool softener and a stimulant laxative which i began taking 2 days ago... so last night after i pooped, it was painful just as usual but then i noticed i was still feeling pain hours after i got done using the bathroom and i feel back there and there is a fingertip sized lump that hurts when i touch it coming out of my anus and I have no idea wtf to do...can i still poop normally with this external hemorrhoid? what happens if it somehow bursts while pooping? and also how long should i expect this to be bulging out of my anus for? i usually poop twice a week but am scared to do so with this lump bulging out of my anus..also the doc gave me some lidocaine jelly 2% i rubbed on it and it eased the pain..please if someone can answer my questions i would greatly appreciate it i don't know if i should be going to the ER or what...and if this is in the wrong section i apologize and if you can just move it to the right section please i've never experienced something as weird as this, the way it looks, it looks as if if i poop i will tear this thing apart which i KNOW will be painful and will do serious damage to me so i want to heal it as much as i can before i have to go poop again...am i over-exaggerating or is it normal to poop with an external hemerhoid? it hurts to fart i cant imagine to poop and about how long they last if anyoen can help i appreciate it again thanks

External haemorrhoids are common, especially for people who are constipated.. if it "pops" it will bleed a bit, it shouldn't be too serious at all, but if you are concerned then don't hesitate to seek medical advice/go to the ER! You may find that you bleed a little every time you have a bowel movement - this is normal with haemorrhoids, but if you bleed a lot (which is unlikely) do get some help.

I presume you've seen a doc about it as you've been prescribed some anaesthetic cream? Glad that helps. The best thing to do is to try to get on top of your constipation (tricky I know..) - glad your doc is helping you with that, a a stool-softener and a stimulant laxative in combination does tend to work best and is what I would recommend but people vary. The key is to take them regularly, keep well hydrated, ear plenty of fibre and some oil/fat, and exercise as much as possible..

Of course people have a bowel movement when they have haemorrhoids, and it is rarely a serious condition as I said. Often they actually aren't too painful themselves, it is the constipation and hard stools that hurt. What did the doc who gave you the cream say? Something like this is best discussed with your doctor rather than on an internet forum :)

Sometimes haemorrhoids go away on their own, sometimes you can have a procedure to remove them - again, I would speak to your doctor about this.

Good luck! :)

I didn't realize that BDD was now the poop discussion forum.

In all seriousness, though, you should be fine. Just monitor your stool - if the blood is bright red, you are good to go (well you may be in hella pain, but you aren't in danger) If it is a darker colour/ color depending on where you live, that is indicative of bleeding higher in your GI tract and you should go to the hospital immediately. This can sometimes happen with really hard stool, or if you get a blockage/ can't shit for 3-4 or more days.

Might want to try some bulk fiber, eg. Miralax so your stool is softer and larger (I know its counterintuitive, but your body clears larger, soft stools easier than small hard ones)

appreciate your quick replies...another question i have is when will it stop "popping out"? or will it continue to do so until i choose to have it removed or is it just popping out and hurting now because its so recent(yesterday night)? like i said the thing freaking me out the most is just knowing i have this painful thing that feels hard to the touch popping out of my ass so how does it go back in or not pop out as much? my doctor just told me to take the docusate twice daily @ 100mg each dose and the stimulant laxative twice a day to help with the opiate constipation and use the lidocaine jelly for pain as needed..as I've asked will this not pop out as much and stop to hurt or will it remain like it is until i choose to get it removed? how long should i expect to wait for it to feel better and stop feeling like i got something coming out of my ass but wont come out all the way and will it "go back in" on its own in time? its also very hard to wipe i hope it doesnt stay like this for a long time im afraid to poop with this hanging out of my ass ive never experienced this before..

little known fact: PD was originally Poop Discussion, not Psychedelic Drugs. maybe i'll enter that in the BDD fact of the month contest.

the faster you can get your bowel movements under control and regular and soft, the faster it will go away. Don't use the stimulant laxative for more than a week at a time. Aerobic exercise helps a ton.

i cant even wipe properly because it is practically clogging my "butthole" so i dont even know how pooping is going to work out at all lol feels like i constantly have a finger up my ass which is definitely not good for a male..
do you happen to know any "average time" for it to go away/stop popping out or how long i should be expecting to feel this thing for?
i heard answers anywhere from a couple days to 3 months.. im hoping i only feel this shit for a couple days and it gets more comfy after

^Indeed.

Increasing your water intake will make the whole going poop thing a less painful experience as well.

im drinking about 80-100oz of water daily

I have had one before due to constant straining caused by opiates......It does suck and is very painful every time you take a shit. The only thing that helped for me was to quit taking opiates, or greatly lower my dosage. And time.

As I said, sometimes they clear up but sometimes you need treatment -we can't tell you how long yours will last or if you will end up needing treatment I am afraid, but most people don't need to have them surgically removed. If it is causing you a lot of trouble, I would go back and see your doctor.. there are topical treatments which help (creams) or sometimes you can have them "banded", or removed surgically.

All about haemorrhoids

We're not really the best people to give you medical advice, you know - obviously people might have personal experience or know a bit, but we can't answer all your questions and even a doctor would find it hard answering all your questions on the net without examining you and speaking face to face - you should get yourself examined by a doctor again and discuss your concerns with them :)

^how long did it last u and was it external? Also did you have stool softners and any prescribed laxatives to help?

As others have said, you pretty much just need to give this time. It may go away or you may end up needing removal (although this is the less common case.) If the laxatives/medication your doctor recommended aren't helping and you're still having issues there, call/visit the doctor's office and let them know. There are other laxative combinations your doctor can try (as effie recommended, sometimes a stool softener and a stimulant laxative are a good combination.)

ok i have heard of people saying to try and push it back in which is what i just tried to do and it went back in almost all the way in but i can definitely still feel it with my finger i can feel just the tip of the hemorrhoid..so will this start to pop back out next time i take a shit or what can i expect? will it hurt more the next time i take a shit now that i pushed the hem back in a bit as it would have hurt if it was still out? and the next time i go to take a shit will it definitely pop back out? it didnt hurt at all to slowly push it back in the anus its just weird that now i can only feel the tip of it but theres nothing popping out at all anymore since i pushed it somewhat back in idk if i can push it in much farther or not? if somewhat can answer all these to the best of their knowledge i would greatly appreciate it, sorry if im being annoying but this is my first time getting a hemmroid at age 23, when i told my dad about it he was shocked because he started getting them at age 50

I have had the same problem from opiate constipation. It was quite concerning to me the first time as well. Just get some Preparation H or other hemorrhoid ointment. It was gone within a couple days after using that.

From what I can tell a prolapsed internal hemorrhoid starts on the inside of you colon and protrudes to the outside. You should be able to just feel it and see. If it seems like the lump keeps going up inside your rectum then that's probably what you have. However, if it's just a lump on the side that doesn't seem to be connected to anything (most likely) than it's just an external hemorrhoid. Just get some ointment man, seriously. It may be slightly embarrassing but it's worth the relief.

^how long did it last u and was it external? Also did you have stool softners and any prescribed laxatives to help?

I was taking stool softeners every day and eating plenty of fiber, But I was consuming 120mg of morphine a day or 100mg of oxyoconde a day (prescribed), and for me the morphine was much worse at constipation, nut even with stool softeners I had to take magnesium citrate every 2-3 days just to produce a bowel movement, and when I was put on suboxone it got even worse. For me the hemorrhoid lasted about 3 months, but the only reason it went away was because I jumped off my suboxone and started abusing again and was going into withdrawals frequently, making constipation a thing of the past :\

I used preparation H, it seemed to help a little bit. I would look into it until it is resolved.

wow you guys know alot about ass.

All sounds like good advice.

You should go see your GP, don't need emergency treatment unless in huge amounts of pain or your bleeding huge amounts.

Its worth getting to a pharmacy and getting some topical creams, just ask the pharmacist which is best. You could lube up a clean finger with the cream and gently try to push the hemorrhoid back up in there, go gentle though. Stool softeners like lactulose and colxy senna are certainly worth taking for a few days. Also increasing dietary fiber, porridge, leafy greens, prunes, metamucel.

It should start to improve but often you end up needing to have the rrhoid banded but your GP can advise you on that one, and don't be embarrassed, you can bet your doctor has seen more ass than you can ever imagine.

I've had them on and off over my almost 58 years. I don't think any were to do from opiates/constipation. My younger years I guess they were from lifting weights...the later years were from my job, which was driving truck loading/unloading it. Since I retired in 2006 I haven't had the pleasure of their, I'll be here all week comeback tour.

About 10 years ago I had the cutest little outie you ever did see...we had a pretty close relationship developing, but then the little bastard went and popped on me. If I were a woman, it would've been one hella week of heavy flow days!!! I almost considered trying Midol for my PMS. No kidding, I was mowing the lawn when it popped and my jeans were SOAKED in blood from top to bottom!!! I wore a kotex for like 5-6 fun filled days.

The worst part, my wife and I had a cruse booked to the Caribbean a week after it popped and I'm on the rag. All worked out and I was free of the ball and chain one day before we left.

The moral of the story, I understand women more about this PMS thing after dealing with this.

I think I am going to close this now. There's a lot of good advice here - but essentially this is a medical issue, and if you are concerned you should go back to your doctor and tell them what you told us. Good luck!

If you have any queries, feel free to shoot me a pm...
