Just finished watching "The Wire"'

The Wire is great, but you can't try and compare to the Sopranos--just one person's opinion. Different animals--Sopranos in a league by itself, will make all others pale in comparison. But for this topic--the Wire is the goods. Can be slow at times, but excellent series. Addresses the topic from different angles. Amazing show, I do not purchase DVDs as a rule, but own both of these series.

Realistic depiction of the inter city especially an area like Detroit and the Jeffries Projects.

btw all the stuff in the wire is based on real events theres a real omar, marlo and avon plus dennis cutty wise
and the real omar did really jump from 3 stories up and not get hurt that bad

Season 2 of the Wire is the second best season of any TV you'll see. Only beat by Season 2 of Breaking Bad.

Season 2 of The Wire was bad ass. Unfortunately they never really reproduced that.

Breaking Bad seems to be on the upswing though. Gets better by the season.

The Wire pwns.

I love this show. Watched seasons 1 - 5 more then once. Amazing characters, storylines, acting...

TV at it's best right there.

I've read up on it...

Some of the actors from the Wire were people who were actually involved in running drugs and street life and what not. It's why a lot of the characters seem so natural in their roles. Like Snoop for instance.

This thread is making me want to watch it again. Ha.

Snoop had been arrested for manslaughter I think. I saw an interview with her, she was like 15, packin heat, and got hit in the head by somebody so shot them. She did her time, and then was casted for the show. Nobody could act like her if they weren't in the game at some point.

im from bmore, it's def realistic. The West side of Bmore is so fucking crazy. The h trade is absolutely wise open on both the east and west sides actually, and the gang violence is ridiculous. It's fucked up, but like, there is a ton of crime on baltimore, tons of killings etc... But nearly ALL of that crime is rival gangs fucking each other up in the h trade. It is actually strangely safe for white boys to go into the hood and not worry about getting killed/robbed etc,,,

im on the second disc of season 1. i like it so far, very good acting

The Wire is a fantastic show from the start of season 1 all the way through to the end of season 5. IMO, the strength of the show is in the depth and portrayal of, not only the main characters, but the supporting cast too. As good as The Soprano's is, it can't compete with The Wire in this respect.

One of my favourite characters was Bodie. I thought his part was brilliantly played by JD Williams and it's a shame they didn't evolve his role further than they did.

It used to be like that.. I think the popularity of the show made the cops crack down on the open air drug markets. Now, it's harder to get shit off the streets and even harder to get good shit/good deals.

I hope it isn't that bad phrost, any other Baltimore heads with a general opinion on the state of the Baltimore open-air trade/game...no specifics, of course? I've heard conflicting opinions from various web-sites, but most seem to think the trade/open-air dealing is just a prevelant as ever, just moved around a bit. You'd know a hell of a lot more than I do, as I've only been to Baltimore a few times, but I was hoping it was still a heroin mecca given the rate of addiction in the city, and its general repuation. So, are the corner boys still out in force, and just offering bunk shit? Or have the cops truly shut down a good chunk of the game?

I'll be attending school in the city come July, so of course I'm hoping the scene is similar to Chicago's...then again, if it 'aint, I may get more studying done....goodnight all...emjoy the weekend...

and re: "The Wire"...loved season 1 and the first with Marlo, some of the best TV ever, the other seasons? Just a meh, I watched because Omar was a GREAT character, but didn't enjoy those seasons nearly as much. Anyone else agree?

damn, i feel like the only person who never seen it. Iunno, i really aint got no interest in watchin it. Its like u can only see so much of it til you seen it all. I been in the hood and seen how shit goes down every day. Lived the life of the addict of the drug runner, and many in between and after a while there aint much new to see. it aint that i think it sounds like a boring show or nothin like that. Just that i feel like damn....I lived the life for so many years of heroin, heroin, heroin, all the time, always in the hood, whether it was when i was livin there or rollin thru a few times a day to get my dope....i had enough, i dont need to see that shit on TV too when I come home. when u seen the shit in real life enough aint no real urge to watch it on tv, it stops bein interesting once it becomes ur actual life and u rather take a break from that instead of see more of it when u tryna relax.

The wire and lost are two of the best shows ever created. How can anyone forget about BUBS! How so many of us can relate to his struggle of being addicted and trying to get clean... Not necessary crack but you get the point.

lost has no business being mentioned in the same sentence as the wire...lost was one of the worst shows ever..

The way the show trolled all its viewers at the end was pretty great though, I thought. Of course, I stopped watching Lost after the 2nd season so I didn't even bother with the final episode.

my friend swore by lost..forced me to watch the first 2 episodes claiming thats all i needed to wacth to be hooked..so i did and i was pissed that i wasted my time

i dont know what happened in the last episode so i cant comment on that

the last episode of lost was alil disappointing. watch a show for 6 years only to find they are stuck in purgatory but everything on the island was real?? you'd hafta make an epilogue for lost to tie up all the loose ends left after the finale
