Heroin Just broke out all over my body after IV use of BTH.

Okay, first off: If I thought my life was in any danger I would be calling an ambulance right now, not posting on BL. Now that that's out of the way, here's the deal.. I bought half a gram of dope, IVed half of it earlier this evening (well, yesterday evening technically since it's 2am) with no problems. I usually shoot a gram at a time since I'm on methadone but it was strong stuff and I'm broke so I only bought a little.

So about 3 minutes after shooting up (the second time) I glanced down and saw a streak on my rib... It looked like the lump you get at the injection site after a missed shot but it was long. I took off my shirt at that point and they were everywhere! There was one on each rib, one on my right side and the other on my left. There were two more vertical marks on each side of my belly button, a big one on my right arm, and just little ones everywhere...

At this point I got more than a little freaked out. I've had allergic type reactions before but they were always little red dots. I didn't have an antihistamine here so I took a shower, idk if it helped or not... they're faded now, you can barely see them, think they're almost gone.

What happened? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a huge tolerance as well as the methadone=

Does it fit the desctiption of phlebitis?

Phlebitis is irritation of the smooth inner lining of a vein (tunica intima). The roughening of the vein lining can encourage theformation of clots.

The vein is reddened or inflamed and can sometimes be felt as a thick cord beneath the skin.

Phlebitis can occur as a result of:

* injecting irritant substances (such as benzos, pills, etc.);
* poor injecting technique;
* infection; and
* accidental injury (i.e. knocks or blows).

An important complication of phlebitis is deep vein thrombosis (DVT) leading to pulmonary embolism.

If phlebitis is suspected the person should be referred for immediate medical advice. Treatment includes resting and raising the limb, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.

whatever it is, if it's still around in 24hrs i would get it checked out for your safety's sake.

Hopefully its just a short weird reaction to a cut or the dope itself. Otherwise if its more fitting to phlebitis i would get checked asap.

Personally i wouldnt be using anymore of that gear. Stay on the methadone until youve cleared up would be my advice.

My girlfiend has broken out with weird itchy red marks on her body....in places far from the injection site....if they fade and clear up by tomorrow afternoon, well....you're probably okay...If they spread or become sore or if you have any accompanying symptoms, such as fever, nausea, dizziness etc., you should seek medical attention!

You probably should seek medical attention now, just to be on the safe side....but if it's already starting to clear up......

I would hazard to guess that it was histamine release from a poor synth or presence of too much codeine or other impurities in the BTH, I would get the same reaction sometimes, only up and down my arm, however, not so widespread as you. It always cleared up within a half hour, and I always took some benadryl just in case.

Big, red, raised hive type nastiness you got, right? I know I have pictures of this, but can't seem to find them...

Could just be an intense histamine reaction... but you never know. It never hurts to seek medical attention when it comes to this stuff because you won't know how serious it is and shrugging some of these things off as "probably no big deal" can end up being a big mistake.

Try taking an anti-histamine before doing that dope again and see if it helps.

my vote goes to histamine reaction. bth contains a lot more alkaloids than ecp and some of them can cause horrible histamine reactions. take an antihistamine like a half hour to an hour before the shot (diphenhydramine works nicely).

I recommend ones that don't come with sedative properties like dph and hydroxyzine, as they can be amplified by the opiates. Cetirizine is a good one that doesn't sedate you but still counters the histamine reaction.

this happened to me before, it was because I didnt rinse the tip of detachable tipped rigs, so it was some kind of bacteria..
I took 2mg of klonopin, and a cold shower (no joke) and passed out and woke up feeling fine. the drugs werent the culprit it was a form of cotton fever.
edit: mine was even more severe i was burning with bumps all over my whole body

Sorry I never replied guys, passed out and then have been busy working since.. and forgot I posted this, I must have been pretty gone.

I've had histamine type reactions before, this was completely different. And I sincerely doubt it was due to poor IV practices, when I do use I'm very careful... new syringes and filters, distilled water, and I wash my hands and arms with antibacterial soap and hot water and then use alcohol wipes on the injection site, the needle, and on my fingers just in case.

When I've had a histamine reaction I get a pounding headache, some raised itchy spots, and it feels like my insides are itching and I get overheated and see spots.

The night I posted this, I felt nothing of the sort. Like I said, I didn't even notice until I took my shirt off and saw this big long bump just above my bra. It seriously looked just like a missed shot with fluid except for the shape.. plus I didn't miss a shot.

It was all seriously weird. The weird part was a lot of these raised bumps were parallel to each other.. they looked purposeful, like weird markings or something.

I've cut down my use a lot, really trying to cut it out completely.. especially since I'm tapering from methadone. I'm down from 90mg+ to 43mg. Trying to get a job with better hours and I'm getting back into riding horses competitively. It's hard though, especially since I have an endorphin deficiency and only ever feel "normal" on opiates.
