Greetings! I've lurked occasionally for info and second opinions and have always found good amounts of useful and interesting information, so I decided to finally join and I hope to be able to contribute!

I'm an artist and pre-grad student with a humble interest in biochemistry, both of which played a big role in my fascination with psychoactive substances, especially hallucinogens. Most recently I've started dabbling in opiates, one of the few kinds drugs I haven't had much experience with and I am trying to figure out whether or not the recreational value is worth it and how to get the most out of them while avoiding addiction.

to avoid addiction don't dabble in the first place
Some people are not predisposed/susceptible to addiction, and dabble in all sorts of various chemicals in a very well moderated fashion without any risk of addiction. But some do catch the fever, and must learn the hard way how a drug addiction effects one's life.

Welcome to Bluelight! :)

I'm a fellow artist, who's working on music and his novel at the moment. :D
An artist and a writer. Or do you consider your authorship as an art and you are truly an artist....an artist whom i would be very excited to see some of your work if u have a gallery or site...and perhaps read the novel ;-) <3

And unfortunately, it's because of the subjectivity of of that predisposition that makes it difficult to define moderated use. It's a line created only by what you perceive to be acceptable, which in turn is shaped subconsciously by denial and environmental influence, or consciously with critical thinking. I can certainly agree with playing it safe in some situations.

It is true for all sorts of various chemicals; however eventually most not all find a DOC and that's the risk of addiction. It starts where it starts and then takes on a life of its own!

If you are dabbling with the opiates, I suggest trying the cold water wash method to get rid of the trash..
