Just curious if anyone else has ever had this happen to them or what it is.

Sometimes when I lay in bed tired & start to drift off I get jolted back to awareness by some sort of sensation in my eyes. (close your eyes you'll see that black space with all the tiny colors but the tiny colors/patterns are a lot more intricate in this state that I am describing.) It kind of appears (or I think it appears.) like CEV's trying to come out to my open eye visual field & it literally makes me open my eyes. This whole thing all happens pretty quickly-in a matter of seconds/moments I believe but it's sort of hard to tell time span because I'll be sort of awake & sort of asleep when this happens.

If you guys have any questions/answers for me I would greatly appreciate it. It is not a concern, I am just curious what this is. Thanks!

This is entirely normal and not uncommon! Certain foods or drugs can exacerbate the condition. I am a vivid dreamer as well. It's a blessing and a curse. Dreams are your subconscious mind releasing during sleep. Keep a pen and notebook next to your bed, when you awaken, write down everything you can remember. Have fun, best wishes! :-)

Sincerely,
- Terri

Yes i do experience that too. If i am not mistaken, i believe this is related to myoclonus which is an involuntary movement of muscles.

So many different things it could be.. without a more descriptive account using terminology that someone else recognizes it's difficult to pin down exactly what you have experienced.

My recommendation, if you're curious, is just to google around until you find similar descriptions. This is one of the real positives of the internet IMO.. you could go years without meeting someone who knows what you're talking about! There's loads of descriptions out there on the web. Happy hunting :)

@ColoradoOpiateGirl: When I do remember my dreams, which is approximately 3 or 4 times a week. I have extremely vivid ones. A lot of times where I feel like I can even control what I am thinking in them (how like in real life you/me have thoughts in our heads, I have thoughts in my head IN the dreams.) & make rational decisions that would otherwise hurt me or cause me some type of harm (in the dream). It is really hard to explain but it's almost like my real life body & mind is being put into a very strange world (the dream) and I can still semi-think and control my actions/thoughts. Could I possibly still be somewhat but barely consious while this is all going on? Or am I just dead asleep. After waking up from these dreams I am in awe and somewhat shocked from how real feeling & extensive these dreams are. I like your idea of writing them down when I wake up. I am going to start doing that. Thank you for your response.

@Maya: Thank you for your reply, I am going to look into that. Just curious and this may or may not have anything to do with this but do you smoke weed more than once or twice a day and/or take psilocybin mushrooms frequently?

@-=SS=- : Sorry I couldn't be more descriptive with this, my terminology sucks kind of (not a native english speaker.) but I appreciate you taking your time to read this. I guess my best bet then will probably be to go online and search because I don't really talk to people in my area.

Thank you all for the replies. I will respond to any more. :D

Could be brain zaps
This is also possible, I have experienced braib zaps when i overtook mdma but went away over a period or time. As to the OP, how much of this have you been experiencing? Have you taken any kind of drug in the past few days that might have made it more frequent?

lots of bluelight threads on sleep paralysis. this sounds like that.

nah its not sleep paralysis, I've had that it don't feel like a dream it feels real and like your being held down by an invisible force. your eyes are open but your body is paralysed.

I experience this about twice a week but have dreams that I can remember about 3-4 times a week. I smoke cannabis/kief 1-3 times a day which I would estimate to be about half a gram to a .7 everyday. I haven't taken psilocybin mushrooms in approximately a month but before that I was taking them 1-2 times every 2 weeks. (Sometimes once a week, sometimes once every two weeks.) The doses ranging between 3-4 grams dried. I very rarely take any other sort of drugs-did adderall recreationally once this month & drank a few beers on two or three seperate occasions.

I have experienced something similar, sometimes just as im about to fall asleep.. but im still consciously awake.. i will begin to see through my eyelids into my room. I can see the outline of everything in my room, the difference here is i try very hard to not open my eyes and maintain this surreal sensation..
