Paul Reubens (who is now 55 years old) has been talking about his two Pee-Wee Herman scripts for years now and according to MTV News (http://www.mtv.com), he's still very much hopeful that they will happen and he wants long-time friend Johnny Depp to play the role of Pee-Wee Herman should he not be able to.
The first film would be based on his show Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Says Reubens, "This [film] takes place out of the playhouse. I think there are one or two scenes in the playhouse in the beginning. Basically it's all in a fantasy land. It's like a 'Wizard of Oz,' H.R. Pufnstuf epic adventure story." The story would bring back all of the original characters from the playhouse both live-action and puppets.
The second, more darker film, would focus on Pee-Wee's rise to fame and fall from grace, though he says it's not autobiographical. "It's basically the story of Pee-Wee Herman becoming famous as a singer," he explained. "He has a hit single and gets brought out to Hollywood to make musical movies
, kind of like they did with Elvis. It all kind of goes downhill from there for Pee-wee. He turns into a monster. He does everything wrong and becomes a big jerk."
But perhaps the most surprising comment is that Reubens wants friend Johnny Depp to play Pee-Wee Herman, to which the actor replied, "Let me think about it." Reubens insists to the site, however, that he still wants to play the character.
