Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

Yes Marmalade I also think that a lot of the public would be surprised to learn that majority of benefits is actually paid out to those in work.
It is a disgrace that people need to claim benefits while in work because they are not paid a living wage.
I read the other day that tax avoidance has soared to over £35billion under Cameron. Yet these companies etc aren't being demonised on TV programmes and being forced to pay up, it is all blamed on the poorest in society.
That tory Mp who was caught out the other week for claiming nearly £6000 of taxpayer money to heat his stables while the poor are told to put on an extra jumper.
I really feel like this government are taking the piss out of us and laughing in our faces as they know we can't do anything about it.

The unemployment rate here in Thailand is just 0.89% compared to UK's 7.7%.

There's no unemployment benefit here so people have no choice but to find something that will make them money. If no one will employ them they'll start an informal business like selling street food, booze from a cool box, copied DVDs etc. Anything to make some cash.

Minimum wage is just 300B a day or about £6.

Everywhere has too many staff.

Street stalls that don't need any more than 1 person working will have 3 people. 2.5 of those people are doing fuck all.

Tiny little shops that can't find more than 2 customers at a time have 6 staff. One ringing up the goods, one packing the back and the other 4 getting in the way.

Bars have people going around topping up your drink every 3 seconds before you've managed to even take a drink after the last one has topped it up.

If there is a pool or snooker table in a pub they have 2 women who's job it is solely to rack up the balls after a game has finished and chalk your cue.

They have 2 guys at the doors of every shopping mall, one to salute you and the other to open the door.

We could have lower unemployment here as well Spade but if a company needs extra staff then the government will supply them with a neverending supply of people that they don't have to pay a penny for as the taxpayer will be paying for them to work there.
I think that Tesco,Poundland & Superdrug have just pulled out of accepting this free labour as they are sick of the negative publicity and people holding demos outside their stores.
Why create new vacancies when you can get free staff working for their benefits?

I think I'm just really stoned but that last line has had me giggling for a good 5 minutes now. The thought of a cunt saluting you as you're creeping into a shop. Hahaa.

This policy is the most fundamentally wrong headed policy this government has ever come up with. If there are any vacancies at these stores, then the unemployed should go through the normal routes of applying for the job and get the job at the normal rate of pay if they are successfull. They should not be forved to work for £1.50 an hour or something. I mean who the fuck is going to gain any self respect or self esteem from that. Apparently that was their selling point, that it will allow the unemployed to regain their self esteem. Yeah right. Pull the other one you cunts.

Do you reckon if they scraped JSA and it was work or die the majority of people on the dole would find someway to make money?

I don't think it's a good idea but I reckon they probably would even if it meant turning to doing dodgy shit like selling drugs and other criminal acitivies.

There's 3 security boys that work outside my apartment and they have to salute everyone who passes them. I don't know how to react towards it, salute them back? :D

In the 7/11 there's always about half a dozen staff behind the counter yet only 2 tills so 4 of them are doing fuck all other than shouting "Sawadee kap / ka" (Hello) as every customer comes in the shop.

Another stat for you, there's 64 million people in Thailand only 2.4 million of them pay tax.

You only pay tax if you earn over 20,000baht per month (£400) which isn't many people. Minimum wage job lands you just 9,000B or £180 per month.

Even a decent graduate job might only get you 15,000B / £300 per month. Out of all the Thai's I know only one earns over 20k per month and she manages high end events for major brands and even still it's not much over, max 30,000B.

If JSA was scrapped then yes I think people would obviously find some way to get money. But there are more unemployed people than there are jobs so a lot of people would have no choice than to turn to drug dealing or other crime to be able to feed themselves.
As it stands today though having a full time job is no barrier against poverty.
People are working full time jobs & still having to claim benefits due to their jobs not paying them enough and greedy landlords charging high rents.
As I said earlier only 3% of social security money paid out is for unemployment so illustrates how much help is required by people in work as well. Having a job is no longer a way out of poverty.

This talk of people filling shit websites with shit articles about things they know nothing about really depresses me, I don't want a web full of shit, and it would be nice if people could spend their time doing something useful for their means of subsistence.

I'm not blaming anyone for trying to make some cash, go for it, I know there's not exactly a lot of choice, it's just a sad state of affairs.

It is a sad state of affairs but I still find it fascinating that internet provides a place where you can make actual money from producing stuff which is of no real value or worth to anyone.

It's not that different to how newspapers and television already are, I suppose, but I generally avoid them, the Internet was up until a few years ago a sort of paradise of useful shit. Now Spade is cunting that up!

People will obviously do whatever they can to survive, history is largely a story of human survival against unlikely odds, I'm OK just now but I've imagined myself having to go thieving in the nearest Waitrose for my antepasta and champagne. I'd do it if I had to. But the other aspect to it is, people are a bit less likely to attract a partner and have children if they're eating grass and sleeping under a hedge. In that way, your proposal would mean a sort of class genocide. So I'm (edit) not voting for you.

Of course, I would eat the rich and live in their mansions before eating grass and living under a hedge.

Brimz, I'd imagine the ATOS thing was only being scheduled because you were being reviewed DLAwise.

I don't know for sure, this is purely speculation, but if you've been awarded 6 years DLA I doubt it's got fuck all to do with ATOS now.

I'll ask my sis, but I think you should be able to forget about them for the near future.

Anyway ... what can I say .... made-the-fuck-up-fer-yas about sums it my love.

Big hugs <3

I'm not certain if DLA etc is being changed into PIP as part of the Universal Credit changes but I did read that Bath is one of about 4 towns that are supposed to be changing over in Spring 2014.

I'm not sure to be honest Marmz I will have to try and do some reading up on it.
I just recall recently seeing about Bath and a few other towns are due to be the next places to switch over to the new system in spring of next year but going by how badly the change over has been going so far then that date could easily change.

City Max . How dare you demote this World Heritage Site to a mere town .

2015 it says on my letter but tbh i don't think that PIP will get off the ground .

A spokesman for the department said it was always the case that most existing DLA claimants "will not be re-assessed until 2015 or later, after [the department] has considered the findings of the first independent review in 2014".

I'm finding this extremely stressful. I have been on DLA since a child (obviously my parents had it for me. But was told that it was 'for life.' I have, as everyone who is on DLA, been able to work with it. When I had to quit work due to the stress of it, I got back on due to the two year linking rule (which was tricky in itself) but it was my DLA payments that helped me survive that period, financially. I did not have to do the jobs I did but I got off my bum n tried my hardest. Under Labour it was good to get a job because as well as DLA, I received Disabled Tax Credit n £200 for starting work.
This government are making it difficult for people to work - they know nothing of poverty or how normal people live. They are a bloody joke.
The linking rules n the disabled tax credit were incentives for disabled/'sick' (don't think the word 'sick' appropriate, though it is the word used. I will use disabled because in MY case it is appropriate). Although other people may think that 'disabled p were at an advantage over them but it simply was not so.
These incentives lasted a year or two (tax credits is done by earnings from previous years' earnings). And most people who have been on benefits over a long period lack confidence n have extremely low self esteem n are petrified of starting work encase it goes wrong n they lose their benefit. Now that the linking rules have been abolished the fear is 10x fold.
I hate this government with a passion.
The one thing that a lot of us with disabilities have, DLA, is going to be ripped from us too.
I am DISGUSTED I really am.
The way this government are going - we're going to end up like America!!!!!

I honestly think that PIP is going to be the hardest of all of the current "New" Benefits to implement . Well allowance cos there is a big dif. between a benefit & Allowance.

Upon further reading it looks like that it is Universal Credit that is Bath is in line for so not sure if that affects DLA claimants or not. Sorry for relegation to town status Brimz,my mistake.
the 'pathfinder' districts are Tameside,
Manchester, and, in stages from October 2013:
Bath, west of England
Hammersmith, London
Harrogate, Yorkshire
Inverness, Scotland
Rugby, Midlands
Shotton, north Wales
It looks like advisers in these areas are already being trained up ready for the change over.
