Jimi Hendrix and psychedelics

man you should listen to Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

I been saying this for months! Damn that album is good, and I'd thoroughly recommend their EPs and demos and stuff. My favourite being a tune called 'The Feeling's in the Core'

i'm 59. jimi was one of my musical introductions to acid during the 1968-72 time span. i saw an old film of him on pbs not long ago and he said something to the effect that for him music was understanding what was between the notes as well as the notes themselves. i think he was into creating streams of sonic thought and helping others to also. at least, he helped me. he no doubt contributed. i have never understood what exactly happened to him.

Jimi Hendrix totally and completely changed my life. When I first started getting into real rock n roll when I was like 11 or 12, I first discovered Clapton and his various masterpieces. Shortly after, I saw that really old french music video of Purple Haze and that was it, I was addicted. I spent hours watching the different live performances and bootlegs. I swear back then like half the shirts I owned were Hendrix ones =D

That was the day that my world was finally opened and found my true love of music. After Hendrix I started discovering The Doors, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin and all the other greats from that amazing period in music history.

Hendrix is GOD

Third Stone From The Sun, nuff said...

Jimi lives. One of the reasons I was curious about psychedelic drugs was because of my interest in Jimi Hendrix, back in my teens... WAY back in my teens! Lol I was interested in psychedelic related music long, long before I ever got near to chemicals, but my early stoning years were pretty powerful trips & Jimi turned up in them pretty regularly, along with The Cult (see below) Black Sabbath.

I often listen to "Love" by The Cult tripping or buzzing on entactogens. There are some very, very psychedelic aspects to the harder, rocking tunes on there, & the two slower, deeper pieces & just mind-meltingly emotional. I recomend giving it a whirl, if Nirvana (1st track) doesnt do anything for you nothing will %)

My personal preference while buzzing is good, deep trance music & if I'm really going for it, some hard, pumping nrg. Tripping requires a little more subtlty & nuance.

my father has got "the expeerience" on vinyl, i listened to it when i was ca. 3-4 years old cause i loved the distorted guitars.....thats education! (mxe ftw!)

....thats where my psychedelic road started....

The Ozric Tentacles are also quite something tripping, especially their Pongmasters Ball DVD.

Live in Pompei by Pink Floyd rates as one of the finest trip DVD's of all time.

I was errrrm rather surprised to be tripped out quite favourably by a live DVD of David Gray at The Point, Dublin. I know it's hardly psychedelica but the lighting is well beautiful & blew my mind &... ummmm the way he wobbles his head when he sings seriously gave me the giggles =D

I apologise for hijacking... nay POLLUTING this fine Hendrix thread with my vilenessness...

I think the blues in general have an earthy quality that lends the music well to the psychedelic experience. And as far as the blues go, Jimi is about as fantastic and innovative as it gets.

ive been listening to this band Baby Grandmothers. theyre crazy psychedelic. i think hendrix took a lot of inspiration from them

the best hendrix album to trip to is "morning symphony ideas" the 28 minute instrumental with him and the drummer...really the 1st 4 tracks...all superb sound quality and very personal too...you can hear them talking to each other.... then the rest of it is subpar sound quality recordings. second place...in my opinion is the "live at the isle of wight" recorded a few weeks before he passed away...RIP Jimi
