Have i fallen into the wrong universe? I was just reading this bollocks anti-corbyn article in the daily mail where a well-known war-supporting blairite is dissing corbyn (though the paper describes him as a trot saying 'even the trots have turned on corbyn') - anyway, i read through the comments expecting the usual lowering of my respect for humanity, but many/most comments seem to be actually supportive of him. What the fuck's going on? (have i accidentally loaded a 'bigot-blocker' app? (maybe i just don't read daily mail comments enough)

The last yougov poll of labour members had jeremy on over 50% (32 ahead of burnham), so he'd win on first preference if that's right. They're making more noises about the vote being illegitimate now, but it'll be hard to go against such a landslide (they'll try though). I've hoped too many times to think corbyn's surge is anything but among the already converted, but it might be, given some fair debate opportunities (curses, my lefty hope's showing again!)
^^as for immigrants his position as is would be unpopular with many, though it might be different if it was backed up (in advance) with building adequate quality infrastructure so there was no strain on the locals (creating jobs/growth in the process), and also with strengthening of workers rights and a decent minimum wage so noone could be undercut (plus in the longer term, strongly advocating workers rights across europe so people don't need to move around to live a decent life). These sorts of arguments simply haven't had much serious airing in the last few decades - maybe when they do people's minds will change (maybe not, but i still think the left shouldn't assume they won't and then adopt what we think is wrong policy because that assumption, 'pragmatically' dropping our principles in the process).
Back in the early 90s, most people when polled agreed that people on benefits weren't to blame for their situation and that not much was lost by fraud - fast forward through two decades of benefit scrounger daytime telly (started under new labour) and jeremy kyle and the polling now reflects a much less sympathetic view (people think 35% of benefits is lost to fraud but it's actually less than 1% ) - noone likes to be told that their views have been manufactured but would those opinions have changed without the media bias?
(woops sorry for the rant - this is what makes the left so lovable eh

(that and telling people they're so stupid they've had their opinions given to them wholesale by the media)
