Jazz

I kinda disappointed no one mentioned the passing of the legendary Dave Brubeck:

He did not pass unnoticed. Take 5 is one of the all time standards that will live on in jazz history for decades to come.

One of my all time favorite jazz pianists-

Duke Jordan - Here's That Rainy Day

I could listen to the Flight to Denmark Album once a week for the rest of my life, and always have a smile put on my face every time i hear it.

I promise you've never seen a more talented multi instrumentalist than this guy. Not only is he one of the best ever trumpet players, he is equally as good at basically any other instrument you can put in his hands.

Here's one of him playing an as a whole big band.

Trumpet/trombone duet by himself.

He's been around so long, I thought he had already passed. Serious.

The news was all over the internets, but I get it. I just found out today that Ornette Coleman and Chico Hamilton were still alive, and I was sure they both had died years ago.

Speaking of Chico...

The love child of the pink panther and a hit of magic mushrooms

That youtube comment pretty much sums up my feelings about that song.

Mingus at his best imho.

Miles Davis - FOUR

A pianist that goes by the name of ludi hindrichs, does an excellent cover of this song. And is the epitome of modern be-bob jazz imho. I can't find a YT link to the performance, but i have the CD, "live at miners foundry". Fucking magnificent.

Mabey one day i'll get around to putting it up on YT.

There are some good tunes I wanna upload that aren't on YouTube, however at times they either get taken down or are blocked a la:

Weak. That Jimmy Smith record, Root Down, is sooo dirty. The drums, the bongos, DAT BASS. Shame the powers that be block it for the enjoyment of everyone worldwide.

I love when this thread is bumped. Keepin' the funk alive!

I only have a few posts, as I am a pain mgt guy not a rec user and dont feel I fit in most discussions. That said, I love Jazz in its may forms, big fan of Chick Corera and Carlos Rabakula, Azizia Mustafa Zadeh, Marcin Wasilewski and Brad Meldau. BTW, listening to Chick's album 'The Ultimate Adventure' on the correct balance of Perc and Soma is a wonderful thing. But mostly I listed to post 70's guitar centric fusion and world music styled Jazz. I cant believe no one has brought up the following great virtusos:

-Pat Meheny (nuff said)
-Al di Meola (my all time favorite Artist, been to lots of show and met him many times, cool, guitar/composition genius)
-Jesse Cook (more Rumba, Flamenco than Jazz in my opinion, going to see him in 2 weeks)
-Stanley Clarke (the greatest thing to come from Philadelphia since the constitution)
-John McLuaghlin (explores every sub genre and invented a few too....)

Glad to able to contribute, I listen to this stuff about 50 hrs a week while working for many years, have some good info on albums for those interested.

You give off a vibe of someone in their 50s or 60s. Not a bad thing, per se, just saying.

Anyway, looking at your list you left off Pat Martino. We'll chalk it up to Alzheimers, old timer. YouTube doesn't have the songs 'Strings' OR 'Just Friends' so I'll just post this one:

Damm bro, I am only 44........Ive been told I have an old soul a few times.

Pat Martino is a good one, not somebody I follow but I respect his work. I occassionally like some Jean Luc Ponty as well. Not sure what my vibe is but, what with being a tradesman and listening to Jazz daily I have an ear for the good stuff. I also like Marcus Miller now and then when I am channeling my funk/coltrane.....

Ashamedly, I don't listen to any jazz after like 1978. Feels bad man, but honestly there's too much old stuff to catch up on. And I'd rather listen to Coltrane than someone channeling him.

Anyway, all this talk of jazz guitarists and no Wes Montgomery. Perhaps he's too obvious? (This session was conducted by the great Don Sebesky)

No jazz after 78.........you my friend are missing out on some fantastic stuff from the guys from RTF and some young cats like Marcin Waslewski.
