So I play tuba, am pursuing a career in it professionally, and the last thing I want would be a cheek/tooth/muscle injury/strain due to excessive grinding and be out of playing for a week or so.

I'm guessing that wind instrumentalists have slightly stronger jaw muscles due to practicing for hours every day. I know I have come out of many practices with a sore jaw, and I don't want to injure myself during a roll.

I've looked at all the grinding relief advice on here and Erowid, so I know about all that. I just want some first hand accounts from some fellow wind instrumentalists on their experiences with jaw tension due to ecstasy and how it affected their playing the following week. How much time did it take to fully recover?

To be honest, I've yet to find anything to help with the teeth grinding, and that includes magnesium. People swear by it but it never seems to do anything but give me a hardcore case of the shits the next day.

That said, even though I always end up grinding my teeth I don't usually end up with a sore jaw unless I take speedy pills (makes the grinding 10x worse).

If you're that concerned about it, I would make extra certain that your rolls are clean. The nature of MDMA will make you grind your teeth regardless, but if you have a strong jaw like you said then I don't think it will be much of a problem. Taking pills with MDMA+amps however, you could be in for some major clenching problems.

I would get a test kit if I were you :)

i think as long as you have plenty of gum to chew on you will be fine, but then again im not a musician...

Taken from another thread on another forum: "Yea last time I dropped I chewed gum for 5 hours straight haha jaw was fucking sore for the next 3 or 4 days" That would be awful for me. :/

and this: "re: ecstasy the purer the MDMA, the less you will grind. The more amphetamines and meth-amphetamines in the pill, the more you will grind.
chewing gum is dangerous because then you're constantly chomping and likely to bite your cheek or tongue. best idea is a pacifier or self control. always be aware of the grind and just try to stop it / focus on keeping your jaw floating half open half closed."

Gum is definitely a bad idea for me. Have you thought about getting a mouth guard?

Magnesium doesn't work for me, either -- at least not with mephedrone. I stopped grinding my teeth on MDMA a long time ago.. not sure why it doesn't happen anymore.

I can tell the OP, however, that I had an overbite and TMJ and I've permanently messed up my jaw from MDMA. This is rare and uncommon, but be forwarned it happens. Go ahead and give magnesium a shot and BE CAREFUL. Maybe get some gum or something to chew on which might help. My issues always happened when I didn't have something to chew on ;)

Definently don't chew gum, your best bet to almost completely avoid it is wait till you feel your jaw start going and give it a good massage, also keep lots of suckers with you, sucking cancels out the clenching.

Will power has always stopped me from clenching my jaw, If I resist doing it during the comeup I usually have no problem throughout the roll. Gum is deffently a no no for me, during my earlier years of rolling I chew my cheeks to shit when I was chewing gum, woke up with a bloody and painful mouth the next day. When I was rolling I had no idea how much damage was happening to my mouth, since mdma blocks pain and all. Mouth guards don't really work either, I had a glowing mouth guard at a rave. Ended up chewing the thing up and getting glow juice in my mouth(Ick). Magneisim never actually worked for me either. Willpower is usually my option to stop jaw clenching.
