Has anyone got any news on the Ninja Resurrection series or have I been in kept in the dark too long? I've only yet to see the first two volumes 'Jubei's Revenge' and 'Hellspawn'....

Animation can be found everywhere, but whether it's to Japanese standards or not is a different story. Most animation produced, apart from whats coming out of Japan, would orginate out of America. And this is where it all falls apart - the Americans believe that a cartoon is a cartoon and therefore only the domain of kids. Animation produced will be aimed at kids and this will have results two-fold.
1. Animation is not of great detail - animation styles are quite basic compared to Anime. With the exception of Disney and Dreamworks who put alot of effort into their art work.
2. Content is less involved and intense as its aimed at children. Even many series from Japan that make it to the US for dubbing are often "dumbed down" in order to reach the target audience. Case in point Cardcaptor Sakura and its evil spawn Cardcaptors - i could go on forever with what they did. Although they have learnt their lesson recently with Cardcaptors and Dragonball Z that they are best left alone!
The Japanese put alot more effort into their animation, storys, characters and voice actors because anime is entrenched into their culture. It's a direct descendant of Manga, and anyone who knows anything about Japan will know the importance of Manga in their culture. It's a detailed area to go into here, but once you understand its origin you'll understand why you don't find animation of the same calibre as you do in Japan. Everyone from kids to old men read Manga - graphic novels (manga) account for an incredibley high percentage of all books sold in Japan. Animation features such as Spirited Away, Princess Monoke, My Neighbour Totoro etc etc actually grossed more at the box office than films such as Star Wars!
Stick with Japanese anime, afterall they are the best![]()
i think they're mainly region 1 dvds.Originally posted by Kitters:
ok if u want a good selection of anime go down 2 minator in the city was there today and thay got heaps.
Minator are rip offs big time!! Most of their selections are Region 1 so you'll get heaps more available, but even for R1 discs they are ripp offs!
For Region 1 discs - www.dvdboxoffice.com - free international shipping, you'll pick something for around $40 au as opposed to the $60 - $70 Minator charges.
For Region 4 - www.fbo.com.au - cheapest by far for local discs - you can pick up the EVA box set for $137 as opposed to $170!

so im all confused now, did i choose the wrong menu option and im watching the wrong thing?![]()
The first three quarter of Death and Rebirth is a re-cap of the whole series and is meant to tie up any loose ends. The last 15 minutes or so is the start of End of Evangelion. And if you're still confused Vurt don't worry - its the very nature of EVA![]()
Ruski - I'll have to give it another try, I can get my hands on some fansubs.
