Hey,

I understand that there are semi-similar threads to this already up, but none matched my exact question. I have seen a lot of posters describe addiction as selfish, as one puts the high before those who they care about. What I am interested in, however, is what you think the most selfish drugs are, ones that produce a selfish state of mind, pretty much opposite of MDMA. Many friends of mine become truly different people on Cocaine and this is one of the reasons I stay away from it. Opposite of Cocaine, weed and at times alcohol often bring people together and can eliminate social boundaries. So basically my question is what drugs do you believe make people act the most self-centered, "douchey", like an asshole?

Thanks in advance

heroin. you never see anyone like "yo guys i just picked up, let's all sesh some dope!" i frequently see people sharing significant amounts of coke, ketamine, even meth, but never once have i seen a heroin user share without being asked a few times first. and GHB makes me act more selfish than any other drug.

^ yeah tweakers are often surprisingly generous with meth

Junkies are miserly with heroin. I've seen sharing in that scene (it was common in the tar scene to smoke with your dealer, or to do a shot with them etc after buying dope) but generally it's pretty restrained, and dope fiends look with visible relief at you when you politely decline to do tar with them when offered. "Oh thank god, he doesn't want to do my drugs! *whew*! God, that was close!" lol. It's hilarious to see the all-too-obvious hesitation when they offer some drugs to you, out of some strained sense of being polite.

But I get it. They don't want to be "sick". And I actually appreciate it when people make efforts to be polite towards me

I actually think that benzodiazepines are one of the worst offenders as far as bringing Mr. Hyde out, in people for whom those effects come out when they take benzodiazepines (or similar tranquilizers)

Not if you use them as prescribed for medical usage (but I'm assuming that's not what you mean).

I haven't done Heroin (and never will) but I couldn't imagine that being a self less drug.

Of the drugs I've used, even though potheads often share their weed and have the reputation of being all "peace and love", I still think it's probably the most selfish drug I've used.

I for one, have often smoked alone cause other than around my closest friends it would make me socially anxious, so if my friends weren't around I'd just be by myself toking and listening to music and watching TV.

That in itself isn't selfish, but a lot of the pothead culture can be about self gratification and just idealizing how great weed is because it can't likely kill you, and I've known some pretty annoying potheads in my time, though I've also known lots of great friendly potheads.

crack cocaine is the most selfish drug....

go smoke some crack with someone after 2 hits, watch what happens to you guys

Drugs aren't selfish. People are.

Addicts in the depths of addition are often quite selfish, but not always as sometimes they are desperate for a friend other than their crippling addition.

That made me laugh out loud...

I'm a little torn because opiates are 1. so looked down and 2. so addictive for so many. If I'm with someone who has and I want some, I won't be afraid to ask. But if I'm clean and trying to stay there, I'd hate for someone to offer me some, because I'd say yes. I would hesitate to offer to someone, even if I knew they had used in the past, for the same reasons (1. they'd look down on me for using, or 2. they'd be clean atm but unable to say no if offered). I just kinda feel like opiates are one of those things you'll ask if you want some.

I'd probably still put it in most selfish though, up there with crack cocaine (and powder cocaine for some people). It just has to do with how expensive they are to use, as well as how difficult they can be to obtain unless you live in specific areas. For a long time I'd NEVER break anyone off my opiates because I had put so much (unpaid) effort into getting them, it just wasn't worth whatever profit was being offered.

Heroin (esp IV ROA) and other "rushy" euphoriant opioids (I.e. fentanyl or hydromorphone)

Benzodiazepines (I.e. alprazolam, temazepam, diazepam)

IV cocaine and crack

IV methamphetamine

Methylone/bk-MDMA esp IV ROA

MDPV

Mephedrone
