As a few people have said, it's not the best place to shoot and the veins in your hands also are a lot smaller then in your arms, they just look big because they're so close to the skin. They roll a lot, missing in the hand hurts really bad, quite a bit worse then in the arm IMHO and they're easy to accidently slip out of while injecting into too. I use my hands occasionally, I'd suggest using the smallest gauge needle you can get and a short length tip like 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch needles can be way to big and I'll have a bit more trouble a lot of the time then with the 1/4 inch needle.
