IV'ing Heroin

Hello,
FOR TL;DR SCROLL TO BOTTOM.
I have smoked (and iv'ed it - got a friend to inject for me) heroin on and off for 2 years now, I don't have a habit as I always stop before I get a really bad addiction. I started iv'ing heroin a few months ago, I think it is much better as I just don't really get high from chasing the dragon anymore. I have a few questions about my technique, please refrain from answers such as don't bother iv'ing its a mistake ect I appreciate your concern but I prefer iv'ing it and I don't think its a good idea to keep messing it up like I am. First off:
I have very prominent veins (few friends have told me an addict would love having my arms) I insert the needle at about a 15 - 30 degree angle, in the right direction of the vein, but it takes me about 5 to 7 times to register, I don't understand as people who have injected for me have no problem whatsoever, first stab and it registers, I follow there technique (albeit not the right way as it's still not in the vein) Like I said it shouldn't be hard at all, I also have very shaky hands which is a major pain in the ass for iv drug use (genetic btw everyone in my family has shakey hands)

So basically what am I doing wrong? Its annoying because my arms are covered in track marks even when I've only TAKEN ONE SHOT IN A DAY. SIMPLY BECAUSE I SUCK AT INJECTING. I don't want to rely on friends all the time just whenever I want a hit. I have read all the iv drug use guides there is, followed them correctly but when it comes to getting it in the fricken vein even with my monster bulging veins it takes me on a good day 5 tries, if i'm lucky sometimes I get it straight away!!! (VERY RARELY)
TL;DR - How come with such prominent bulging veins and inserting the needle at a 15 - 30 degree angle, in the direction of the vein, do I never register?
Oh yeh forgot to say I insert the needle all the way into the vein ( well what i think is the vein >.<) use 1ml syringes with the little needles (think it's an insulin needle couldn't be certain)
So...tips would be appreciated.

Here's a big thread on the subject.

Everything you are doing seems fine to me but there are still some details which you left out. I've never injected though so am not that sure. Do you lay the needle against the skin to steady it? And feel a pop when you push into the vein? There's a lot of stuff read through and see. Feel free to ask more as well.

Good Luck!

Do you mean when I insert the needle into the vein do I push it against the skin to steady it? If so no I don't and if that how I should do it I will do that in future, I dunno why I couldn't think of that before because logically it would help to stop the needle sliding around cos of my shaky hands. And thank you for the thread I shall peruse it just now, if you need more details please ask, oh and if you meant do you push in the needle straightly against your skin, no I used to but then I got told you needed to put it in at an angle. Thank you for your reply it is most appreciated.

EDIT: About the pop sensation you described, I do feel a sharp pain and a sort of little bit of resistance against the needle then it just slides in, I always thought then that the needle was in the vein correctly, but pulling back the plunger always ended up with just an air bubble.

You are probably going too deep or rolling the vein. When you start to IV it takes some time to get it all right

Generally when injecting I use the middle finger against my skin and rest the syringe on top of it or a little above it for the right angle. I say it is somewhere between 25-30 degrees, the more angle you use generally will be harder to hit the vein. Try and steady your hand by using that finger to rest on, it will help.

I've always injected with the hand I right with (left) into my right arm and generally use the same spot every time. I do around 3-6 injections a day into that spot, mainly because I am shooting methadone these days (Don't ask me why lol, I think it is a needle fixation) and because done 120mg of done is a lot to inject I need to do it over 6 (5ml) barrels. If you do not get it in the vein first try on the pullback, go a little more shallow or deep and try, do not pull all the way out and try again, just move in or out a little and pull back gently, if you are in only a very gentle tug will be needed to get blood flowing back. once you see blood spill back plunge it home.

Anyways, keep trying, everyone nearly has the same problems when they first inject.
