This question is a fast one so... Why is it bad to inject a tablet containing paracetamol (and opiate)? I read an article about how there is an injectable formulation for paracetamol. The IV dose is not significantly less than the oral dose, so damage to the liver shouldn't be the reason. Most of the paracetamol is filtered out anyway especially when you use a micron filter (unless you boil your pill) because it is not very soluble in cold water. The paracetamol that does dissolve shouldn't pose any risk due to the low dose, the lack of solid particles, an the fact that it is used (with a different formulation to make I more soluble) in hospitals. That leaves the binders since there is a larger amount of binder needed for a bigger pill. Is that the reason? Because based on everything I know, if you micron filter your tablets it should not be dangerous at all (as safe as illicit iv drug use gets). I'm not asking because I want to try injecting percocet or vicodin (can't get those anyway, I'm in Australia), I'm just curious.

The ration of paracetamol to opiate is so high, that it makes it very hard to be able to extract the opiate from the solution. Also, most pills with paracetamol are on the weaker side so you would need several pills to get high.
If you need lets say 3 pills to get high, then the amount of powder that you start with is extremely high. Then you are adding water and the apap mushes up so a lot of water is required. So the amount of water that you would have to use to dissolve it is so high that you would need a lot of shots to get it all.
It is not worth the risk, also it is not safe to inject the amount of solution that it would take to dissolve the pills. There is only so much solution that you can inject into your blood stream without it causing problems.

i would think the amount of acetametphin in an oral tablet would be way higher than that of an IV solution; puts a huge load on your liver.

If you're micron filtering, and are careful not to exceed a dangerous amount of paracetamol, I don't see the problem.
The biggest reason why people deter others from injecting these pills is because most people considering this in the first place are not using micron filters. Or, their tolerance is so high, that the amount of paracetamol they would consume would be dangerously high.
