IV Sedation for wisdom teeth extraction

Midazolam and fentanyl are incredibly safe for anesthesia when the patient is honest to their surgeon and anesthesiologist. Typically they have someone like a nurse watch your heart rate and BP the entire time so if you are going to start to overdose, they'll stop it before you get there.

This.

I actually had the opposite happen to me when I had my teeth removed, I started to come out of anesthesia during the operation, of course the opioid (most likely fent) they had given me was still working so I felt no pain, I remember seeing the anesthesiologist look at me and notice that I was waking up, he leaned over and pushed a button, turned a knob or did something and I went right back under.

They had given me a 10mg Valium about 15 or 20 minutes before the procedure. This was before I had ever taken benzos recreationally or medically before.

lol nice. when i got mine out the doc was pretty chill. he gave me the pain killers in the IV b4 administering the gas they used (mixture of ketamine and some other stuff like nitrous). unfortunately i had a pretty decent tolerance at the time and had already been IVing dillies a lil so i didn't feel anything, but you could tell the way he said it he was expecting a reaction out of me for the pain relief. i told him i didn't feel anything and he kept checkin the bag as if something was wrong lol. the gas put me out about 10-20 seconds later b4 i felt any pain relief tho, unfortunately

i got cold water on the injection site and a cocktail that let me semi-concsiously remember flashes from surgery, once they put a breathing mask on me I counted to like 10 and woke up in a dissociative-esque hangover. definitely not just a benzo

Wow!!! You ppl are so lucky... went through hell with my wisdom teeth, a hell that lasted on and off for two years... I have never been in more excruciating pain, than when I came home after getting the first one surgically removed (they cut a cross, and then split the tooth and pulled it out half, and then the second half, in two very crunchy and nasty pulls with the clamps and tweezers)... I was almost screaming for dope, and at that time, I barely even knew what heroin was... Anyways, when I reached out for some pain-killers the second time round almost a year later, the only thing they gave me was a couple of paracetamol tablets, and then they sent me off, into the world in pain and misery... I was prepared this time though, and had a whopping load of pod tea brewed and ready to go. I only had issues with the lower two, not the upper two wisdom teeth... And mind you, I only got the standard 10 stabs and jabs in the gums with the xylocain needle, and then they went ahead with the operations... So fentanyl and IV sedation is something I would have given my left nut for during the wisdom teeth extractions, if I could relive them... lol...

i've heard of this, where people are concious, they feel everything of it, but they cannot move. they're completely paralyzed. i'm really sorry to hear that you had to indure this. its really rare for that to happen.

there's a technical term for this but i cannot bring it to mind right now.

dont know iof anyone has already said it, its called twilight sedation, its the most common way to do stuff like wisdom teeth i think. i had demerol and versed and i actually came out as they were suturing me up it sucked.

Yup - I had twilight sedation. When they were talking to me about the procedure (I was 18 ish) they said you should have someone drive you home and I just brushed it off. Thankfully my mom drove me because I was a babbling semi-conscious fool when I came out of the procedure for about 2hrs.

They gave me versed and fentanyl if I remember correctly. I didnt count back very far and it was dreamy. They gave me hydrocodone and percocet for pain but I dont think I ever took the percocet.

^^
look for that percocet man. i prefer oxy to hydro. those percs will have u feelin nice.

I recently got two of my wisdom teeth extracted (2 bottom teeth) and I was put under. I was given IV Brevital, morphine and laughing gas. When I woke up, I was given a prescription for Percocet. =D

^Nice score!
I said that I would have given my left nut for all that, if I could go back and do it again, but on the other hand, I can tell the story of having gone through the pain, without pain-killers and completely conscious... Shit... I don't want to think about it right now... another time!

It was truly painful after the local anesthetic wore off, I was in really, really bad pain man. Mine was a bit complicated (and that's why I was given morphine rather than fentanyl, because it took longer then usual to finish the surgery), so that's why I got the percocets - honestly I was expecting 7.5 Vicodins so I was surprised when it said percocet on the script. I had to stay 2 hours after the surgery, so the morphine wore off and my brother-in-law came and picked me up. I was fucked up man, it was great. They must've given me a good dose of morphine because I felt a buzz when I woke up.

That sounds like N2O. I was given laughing gas as well, but I think it was mainly the IV cocktail + the diazepam that really did me in. I was given a script for Vicodin 5/500s and a refill.

And there is the beginning of NeighborhoodThreat's opioid addiction.

I was in pain for three weeks after my operation, I remember the first four or five days I was using 15-20mg hydrocodone, who knows how much ibuprofen, etc. This was when I didn't have an opiate tolerance. I also had a bad infection in my mouth where the teeth had been removed, and was sick for basically a month after the operation.

I finished my Percocet bottle within 4 days (he originally gave me 30), so I truly tried to space them out to last me because it was very painful. But I took a total of 10 on the first day when I got out, the second day another 10, so I had 10 left. I took 5 the one day and the next I took 5. I got an MSContin 100 mg and I swallowed that bitch whole man, I wanted relieve from the pain for a long time. So I called the clinic on the 5th day and told the secretary that the pills weren't cutting it and that I was dying of pain. She told me to come in that same day so the dentist can have a look at them. I go that after noon and he gives me a script for 20 7.5 mg Percocets. I tried to ask him if he could give me MSIR 30 mg (I made up a lie and said I was prescribed them once and they helped a great deal with kidney stones that I had). He said no and I didn't bother badgering him about it, so I was content with what I got.

When I went in I simply explained that I had a chronic pain problem a few years backand learned then that most of the standard painkillers make me nauseous and I can't tolerate them... dilaudid and opana are the only ones that work for me.... he gave me an Rx for 40, 4mg dilaudid.

u my friend are one lucky son of a bitch. i would have creamed my pants once i saw the script. i'm actually getting a lil precumm now just thinking about it lol

@korn3x: yea it was actually the first time I had any quantity of a high end opiate since I got over my massive dilaudid habit 2 years prior... kinda funny because back in the day id have gone thru the whole script in 2 days or less...but when I got it I got all excited and took one.... then saved the rest for special occasions... I actually still have a couple... if that doesn't say I'm over my dependency/addiction idk what does.... and I bang them... still not any problem with wanting to do more than one every couple months...

I am going to see that same oral surgeon here in a month for a similar procedure (impacted canine tooth that needs to have a suspension attached to it because its still up in my gum...) anyways similar to a wisdom tooth but more details... refill time I guess :)

ive got a pretty high tolerance to benzos and just about every substance. that shit had me bent like nobodys business i didnt remember counting down from 10 past 8. i was nodding like fuck for a couple hours and didnt remember anything.

Hmm, After doing DXM and realizing that they have to take the mask off to perform the surgery I'm pretty sure they gave me some sort of dissociative anaesthetic--not ketamine though.
Maybe a benzo/ope cocktail but not likely.
the vicodins they gave me were not worth half a shit for post-op pain (i had all 4 done and they were impacted)

I also had a pretty nasty reaction coming off whatever cocktail I had. My mom was really scared as I grew restless and agitated due to the growing pain--she called the hospital back, only like .5% of people experience the reaction I had to ? substance. Super troopers, respect and cognition of my mom's reaction to my reaction, and a vicodin combined with supreme power of the will helped me calm down.

Edit: maybee it included propofol?? I remember coming across it doing wiki/erowid/bluelight research about two years back after my DXM experiences to try and figure out what the hell i had
