I'm an active heroine user. My tolerance is about the equivalent of a 60mg Oxycontin to get me high. I started growing poppies again this year and have a simple question I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere. Can I IV the opium? I would have to assume, yes absolutely. This thinking and just jumping into this could easily end me up dead, seeing as how I have only smoked opium. I do plan on going into this with extreme caution. For example testing small amounts to see how it reacts in the spoon first and taking baby steps from there. I'm not 100% it will be reasonable due to the fact opium to heroine is a 10 parts to 1 part ratio. There are tons more opiates than just heroine in opium so that may make up for it.

No, you should not do this.

Opium is plant latex and has a lot of plant material in it that you should not inject into your veins. It probably won't kill you, but it will harm you. Heroin is way more safe to inject as it is way more pure (and is also a different drug, heroin does not equal opium, heroin isn't even in poppies).

Poppy pods should be consumed orally or the opium should be smoked.
 
This is a very very bad idea. I have read in parts of the world of very poor cultures injecting what amounts to very strong poppy tea. This was in one of those crazy northwest europe areas. This is a bad idea, very bad deadly idea.
 
^ yeah, I know what you're referring to and I don't even want to mention the name to give the OP or anyone else ideas because its THAT unsafe.

Please do not do this for the reasons outlined above. Since this is a harm reduction forum and there is NO WAY we can advocate injecting opium, I am going to close this. PM me if you have any questions.
