IV opiate use "does not last as long?"

I have commonly heard opinions that IV opiates "won't last as long" as other routes of administration. I have yet to hear any sort of explanation as to why this is or if this is actually true or not. Any thoughts?

IME IV anything hits you all at once, so it hits you harder, but its shorter lasting. However its hard for me to tell with heroin. If I smoke say a half gram I will be feeling good for an hour then I'm just mellowed out, not noticeably high. However if I were to shoot even half that I would be high for say 4 hours. And if I did the same .5 shot I'd be nodding for 8. Its kind of hard to compare the two. Are you talking about the same amount of drug? If so lets say 5 bags shooting and 5 bags snorting. If you were snorting and didnt do it all in one line you would be higher for longer because youre spreading it out. Where-as shooting as I've said, hits you all at once. So you get higher for the moment, but for less amount of time? I believe.

As far as why I believe its because, shooting hits you all at once, so I believe that it also leaves your body quicker. Especially with things like bupe and at least for me, coke.

From what I've heard from meth users back in my days of using that stuff...smoking is actually the shortest acting RoA...

My theory would lies in the fact that you don't actually ingest it. It's vaporized, inhaled, and then exhaled...

Its hard for me to say, since I never snorted or smoked H . I shot it daily for years, though, and can tell you that I could catch a very heavy high from 1 shot of good tar. High all day long from 1 shot . Nodding off for hours & hours. Everything I owned had cigarette burns in it .

When you IV, it basically goes into your system all at once (same as smoking). If you take oral, it's almost like a time release - not all of it's gonna enter your bloodstream at once, it's gonna slowly get absorbed. Snorted is gonna be slightly faster, but again, it's still goto sit in your nose and get absorbed into blood.

Please don't bump your own threads spaceyourbass, someone will get to it eventually :)

nAON covered it - it's all about about how fast the drug enters your bloodstream and therefore how quickly your body begins to eliminate it. IV -> instantly in the blood -> body immediately begins to metabolise and/or excrete it.
