On one thread (about IV morphine) I saw a post from someone saying that they had IV'd kompot. A boiled down version of pod extract, sometimes acetylated with GAA or AA and sometimes just plain. I was wondering about the health risks associated with this since it seems to be quite common in Poland and very simple. According to the guy posting it was a nice, morphine-like rush. I know that there's other alkaloids (thebaine, papaverine, noscapaine, opaverine, codeine to name a few) and that there is a possibility of quite alot of sugars from the plant ending up in your shot. Anyone who has any info regarding the safety of this please post. Any experience would be appreciated.

The biggest thing I see with IVing homebake is the plant material that could still be in the extract. Which can cause a whole bunch of health problems. Plus the other alkaloids in the mix aren't generally good for the body via IV, like codeine or thebaine.

I'm aware of the dangers of IV codeine, however the dose is very low. The content in opium is 0.2-2% and the conten of morphine (which is the wanted alkaloid) is 10%. I'm going to assume that plant material has similar amounts (of course not by weight, by alkaloid ratio). So say you want 20mg morphine in your shot, you will have 176mg of other alkaloid and Sugars and 4mg-0.4mg codeine in your shot. Seeing as people easily survive IV doses of 200mg (though it's extremely uncomfortable) I doubt 4mg is dangerous. The plant material was also my main concern. But if you filter it well, or use a micron filter it shouldn't be THAT harmfull or?

I think that the plant material can have a little mold on it, which would obviously cause problems.

I know that the plant material problem has been brought up when people ask about adding lemon juice to dissolve crack or H. So maybe do a search on that and see if you can find more info on that.

horrible idea. iv codeine and or thebaine is asking to have your head blown the fuck off. if that isnt enough the plant material ensures you a nice healthy infection.

I did a chapter on Kompot for my upcoming book (with much help from the folks at Bluelight).

Kompot started in Poland in the mid-1970s after a Gdansk chemistry student figured out a quick, cheap and dirty way to extract alkaloids from poppy straw using easily available materials. A lot of the chemicals and supplies used in making it are also used in water filtration and cleaning. By back-engineering the making of bulk aspirin, other amateur chemists figured out how to make their morphine diacetylmorphine - or at least some of it. (Sorry if I'm breaking any synthesis rules here: trust me that this is not something you want to try at home anyway).

It's been seen since in the Baltic countries, Eastern Europe, Russia and many of the former Soviet Republics. It can be brewed in your kitchen or in your squat. Markets developed with people selling kompot out of large pots. Users would dip their needles in together and shoot up - or they shared needles when syringes were scarce. The final product was unsterile and bacterial diseases proliferated. In Russia the cooking of "Chernaya" or "Hanka" frequently ended by adding a few syringes full of human blood: it was believed the blood would attach to any impurities in the final broth and precipitate them to the bottom. The users who donated blood were then paid with a shot from the final batch.

Today poppy straw heroin is less common in the region than it once was. Part of this is due to enforcement of new restrictions against poppy growers. Mostly it is due to an influx of cheap and readily available Afghan heroin. Unfortunately, this has had some unforeseen consequences. Kompot was a community of users making a drug for users: imagine rave culture, only with dirty needles and abscesses instead of glow sticks and pacifiers. The heroin trade is ruled by gangsters and crime syndicates.

The general consensus among those who have used it is that a considerable amount of non-acetylized morphine remains in the final product. A kompot shot is said to produce "pins and needles" and a strong histamine reaction. (Of course, that could just be one's body reacting to random plant proteins). I have never IVed kompot myself so I couldn't tell you.

In the interest of harm reduction I'd say there are many far safer ways of getting an opiate high. You're not going to sample kompot or chernaya unless you are in the region and know somebody there. If you go around looking for this stuff in Russia or Poland you might soon find yourself talking to some very unamused men with badges, or you might get the shit kicked out of you by people who just say Nyet to drugs. And if you want to try it yourself at home, you better make absolutely sure you get the recipe right. This stuff is the bathtub crank of opiates: if you foul up you can end up dying of anaphylactic shock or shooting up un-neutralized acid.

The codeine and thebaine aren't really the problem: as another poster reported, there's not that much of either in a shot.

And ISTR one study that suggested that the nasty, acidic conditions under which kompot was cooked helped to cut down on the number of bacteria and virii that wound up in the final shot. The spread of some diseases apparently increased when users switched from poppy heroin to heroin. I'm going to look around again and see where I found that tidbit. It makes perverse sense.

That being said, abscesses and infections are widespread among kompot users. A lot of this has to do with the utterly unsanitary conditions surrounding its use.

I know of someone doing this to the point.. all he got out of it were pain and an abscess. Better you find heroin to shoot or opium to smoke.

I don't think you can filter out all of the plant material with a micron filter.

Yes, you can.

He didn't mention anything about micron filtering.. though it is a good idea to use micron filters not everyone has access to them or the means to buy/ship them to their home. We all understand that you are the micron filter king.. you should eb a door-to-door micron filter salesman ;). I'm not talkin' down on MFs but I just don't think it's necessary to mention them in every post.

He did mention something about them, just not in his original post.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, one being the worst, where would kompot lie?
1 would be someone shooting up pills dissolved in rain water (from a muddy puddle) with a for the thousandth time reused 18 guage needle which a Hep C and HIV sufurer just used. All this without filtering.
3-5 would be dirty meth (depending on the ability of the cook to do an A/B)
7 would be good meth (because it has negative effects on skin tissue and veins)
an 8 or a 9 would be good, white street heroin (as uncut as it gets)
and 10 would be medical grade morphine.

Umm... well it would probably range anywhere from 2 to 4-5, if you want to use such a scale.

I'm not sure how bad impure meth can get...but I still imagine a fair bit of meth safer to use than this due to the plant material in itself.

There is less plant material than you might expect. The poppy tea and plant material are thrown out after a few hours cooking. The filtering blocks are washed with water and then ammonia water, causing the various alkaloids to precipitate. There are a few other steps, but the kompot is brewed not from the original tea but from the kationit wash. That being said, it is almost certain that some plant material would wind up in the kompot ... not to mention the other stuff you can expect from material that is cooked up in dirty enamelware and shot out of shared needles.

As far as micron filters go, most junkies in kompot country have enough trouble getting hold of clean syringes. Micron filters are something they could only dream of.
