Hi
recently ive started to IV ketamine but am having problems hitting a vein. today i hit on my wrist.. pulled the plunger back and blood came into the barrel but i must have missed as a bubble the size of a 10p coin has risen. what will be the effects of this? I didnt get too much of a rush from it, but wonderd what will happen.. wil it go down?

im very new to the whole IV thing. any guidance of tip on how to IV safely would be really appreciated (my hands are my preffered sites)

thanks :-)

I'm not too familiar with IVing things, or ketamine at all for that matter, but I was under the impression that IVing isn't recommended because you may be sucked out of reality before you can take the needle out. If you have a sitter do it for you it might be okay though. If you're set on shooting it, try IM (intramuscular).

I found IV ketamine dosing to be far to intense for my liking and I'm an avid fan of k, its not the best way to go unless you really enjoy being knocked out of it and feeling seperated from your body.
Stick to bombing in a cigarette paper and doing lines at the same time for the best balance between duration and strength.

Ketamine has an affinity for the Psychedelic Drugs forums but the most knowledge and experience with IV safety and dealing with complications is in Other Drugs/ Basic Drugs Discussion so I'm going to send to OD first with the idea that they can move it along after working out the IV stuff if the OP desires.

This is the equivalent of a SC (subcutaneous) injection of ketamine. The drug will absorb into your blood stream over the next half an hour and you will likely get quite high (though if you are used to IVing and your dose is for that it might not be as intense). A warm compress on the injection site can assistance this process. After the effects have warn off you are going to want to monitor the site of the injection for signs of abscess and/or infection. So long as you don't notice any signs of things getting worse you should be okay. The chance of at the site complications of a SC injection is greater than an IV as any insoluble adulterants in your preparation will remain there as opposed to be whisked off towards the lungs.

Check out this thread for proper injection technique.

I'm inclined to agree with the other posters that there is a reason you don't want to be mainlining your ket but I can't recall what it could be at the moment.

Just going a little of topic, but; is it just me or do I remember reading/hearing somewhere that Ketamine shouldn't be IV'd, only IM'd?

Please dude look into learning more about IV injection with links like amapola pasted there for you. There's no need to miss entire shots dude, like if it feels like its resisting kinda, and its uncomfortable, slightly painful and stinging, dude you dont just bloody jam it in anyways, you stop because you're not even in the vein.

It's really obvious man, like so even if you did get the blood come into the syringe, when you pressed the plunger down you should have noticed it didn't feel right, stinging, lump forming right away, its super obvious man.

If you push down the plunger and you dont feel that resistance and stinging sensation, but instead a cool flowing sensation down your vein you know you can keep pushing the solution in. Very soon you will just know instinctively when it's in, but yeah main give away is the discomfort and stinging, followed by the lump formation.

Dont stress though, just keep at it and keep learning.

And ketamine can be IV'd it's just that its intensity via this route really makes it impractical for recreational use or something along these lines. OP might be better off just IM'ing i think.

nice one one for the advice guys..

my tolerane to k is so high i dont have the out of body experiences through IV'ing. but thank you for the concern.. it normally takes about 20 seconds for the high to hit me, and by the time the needle is out and straight into the sin bin. all i get is a wave of what feels a really clean high. and theres a specific smell i smell which is kind of like mint.. really clean. its hard to explain. and i only shoot like .1 of a gram anyway. bigger ammouts i always do it with a sitter, who injects me.

as for the missed hit site. its still abit sore today (nearly 24 hours after injection) and i can still feel something under the skin. no redness. but if it still feels sore in the next ouple of days or so, ill be seeking medical advice

Ama covered this all very well. Just one thing to add - to aid healing at the injection site, invest in some anti-biotic ointment, preferably with vitamin E in it, as well. It's by no means a cure, but can help speed up the healing process if it did get infected, and vitamin E is very good for the skin (Scars/bruises/etc)

Since you do not seem to have IVing K down to a science, it might be a good idea to look into IMing ketamine, and try and perfect that first before going down the IV road. Regardless, IVing and IMing drugs is no joke. You need to research it, so you know everything. Once you know everything, lean 3x more stuff about it. This is serious shit you're getting involved with, and it is imperative to be an "expert" at it. This way you can basically reduce the likelihood of missed shots, infections/abscesses, etc..

Make sure to use fresh rigs every single time, and filter, preferably with micron filters. If no micron filters are available, cotton will work, but cotton can only filter out particles that are larger than ~50 microns. Which means bacteria/viruses can make it thru cotton. a .22 micron filter can filter out bacteria and all those baddies.

^This post is seriously spot on. This wise man put it to you exactly how it is. If you're going to get into IV drug use you really gotto take it seriously and know your shit before you really even touch a needle. Practice with saline is also good.

But yeah dude our point is that nobody whos got iv'ing down pat is missing entire shots. Of course people slip out of the vein and stop injecting and register again, or they miss completely, pull out and then try again. But to miss the entire shot you have to literally pump the entire dose under your skin which is painful and like i said before super obvious that you're not in the vein at all. At this point you dont just hope for the best and keep pushing in. Unless you want to skinpop the shot, you pull out, and you attempt to register again, when you know what you're doing missing shots really is unacceptable.

Nothing wrong with intravenously using ketamine, given your tolerance, it's much safer for you than a ketamin naive person, as you said you havn't been losing reality before you got the needle out so no dramas there, just really take it seriously and learn to inject well. This inevitably takes time and if some ideally, abit of saline as well.

Once you get to the point where you can confidently and stressfreely put that needle into your vein and pump the solution in no worries and you can do this mostly everytime first time unless it's an unfamiliar or new site, you know you're good to go. Plus you will obviously know whether you've got it down or not.

Please dont take this post as condescending. I'm not at all putting you down for not being some injecting all-star. Just trying to help you be in a position where you can make your injecting as least damaging and easy as possible.

As others have stated do not underestimate the power of vitamin E creams for skin healing. And do not understimate how much exercise all every kind improves your vein accessability. Hydration is even more important.

Good luck dude, you can't know enough man. I recommend learning, learning some more, then relearning all of this. It will be worth it many times over man. Between me and you i quite like having this little skill mastered haha.

Okay in conclusion dude do not stress about your missed shot. It will become very obvious to you if it becomes infected, but the odds are it will just heal perfectly no harm done. It's not a bad thing or anything, the risk is purely that your shot didnt come from a medical ampule, and thus could have introduced foreign matter to the injection site, this aint a problem when its injected to a vein as it flows to your lungs and heart ect(still not healthy obviously), but of course if they a skinpopped, the site can become infected and an abcess form. I wouldn't knowingly put anything into my muscle that hasn't been through nothing less finer than a 0.20um micron filter for this reason.

To give you some peace of mind a month ago i was mindlessly mucking around, and some how managed to inject 20 units of "mother" the energy drink, under my skin. This was with a seriously old and barbed needle. I was just messing around and didnt even realise the bevel had puntured and entered my skin. When i pushed the plunger down mesing around i felt the familiar skin pop feeling and was DISGUSTED. Seriously. But you know what? I didn't get any infection and the solution didn't even irritate tissue or anything just absorbed and no infection resulted. So chances are you will be fine, but of course definitely possible you did introduce something.
