My friend shot heroin into this arm and before reaching the end of the shot, had sudden burning and pain. Immediately, stopped injecting and his arm started to swell, go numb, and turn red.

Can someone tell me what might have happened? I have never heard of such a reaction. It has been about 15-20 min and most symptoms are gone, but would like to know what occurred anyway.

Any experience or knowledge on the subject is much appreciated.

That looks bad, we can't really assist over the internet you should go see a doctor. Did you miss your vein? It looks like maybe something in the cut caused an allergic reaction.

It's just a pretty bad hive reaction from dope, happens to quite a lot of people, occurs from the histamine release.
This is like a textbook case of hives from a IV shot lol, doctors should reference this.

If all symptoms dissipate (and stay that way) then I would say you are totally okay as this is a very common reaction to IV heroin usage.

Still, no matter what no one over the internet will ever be able to replace an actual medical doctor, so remember that.

Oh, and if this happens again or you want to prevent it from happening, just take a couple benedryl, should work just fine.

-Please report back to let us know everything's alright (as i expect it should be).

You should be fine, obviously we can't offer you medical advise, but that looks exactly like a histamine reaction; I get those now and again shooting dope, I normally take an anti-histamine and it generally clears up within a couple hours. Don't stress.

Looks like a release of excess histamine for shooting heroin. You'll be fine, I used to get this a lot as did my ex.

Thank you for everyone's input. The symptoms dissipated for the most part within a couple hours. Arm is completely normal this morning. It is good to hear this is not too uncommon. It was pretty spooky not knowing what was happening, but figured he should be fine.

Thanks again!

Thanks for checking back! Glad to hear you're alright, again taking a benedryl will definitely help you out.
