IV Heroin - Experienced - A Little Too Much

Heroin does NOT have to be heated prior to injecting, especially the tan powder that I get (in the northeast US). A lot of people heat tar, but this is only to get it into solution faster, and because a lot of people are under the impression that heating to the point where the solution just begins to bubble will kill any bacteria and help to prevent infection. This is false, much more heat would need to be added in order to kill any organisms, but if you added enough heat to do so you would also be destroying all of the heroin.

Shooting heroin is in fact as simple as adding water, filtering, and shooting, as far as prep goes. I'm not going to get into all the risks and problems that IVing can cause (actually just using heroin in general, IV is just another method of administration, but because it's so much more efficient than other means people often go overboard), but as far as prep the aforementioned is correct.

Heating sometimes produces unsoluable precipitates which easily get filtered out. So if anything, that's a benefit.
 
Heating can also cause regularly insoluable cuts to become soluable, meaning you're injecting more crap than you would when cold-shooting. It goes both ways.

But you're right, it's not necessary to heat the stuff we get. That's how I learned to fix and it's become part of a ritual. I've shot from the same bundle both cooked and uncooked and never noticed a difference in the high. It'd be interesting to read an academic paper on how cooking actually affects it though.
 
Speaking of cooking - I know a number of people that swear by cooking their oxy's before shooting. I was always under the impression that oxycodone was highly soluable in cold water, and that cooking would only lead to more fillers/binders entering the solution, and told my friends so. They still swear by it, and think that anyone that doesn't cook their OC's is wasting some product.

So in the last 2 days, I did a test. Yesterday, I shot an OC40, Watson brand (with ABG imprint, identical to name brand OCs) and added heat until the solution just began to bubble (exactly as my friends do). Then today, I shot another Watson 40, but this time cold-shot it. The result was exactly as I expected. The cold shot hit me just as hard as the hot-shot (heated shot) did, but the cold-shot was a mostly clear solution in the barrel of the syringe, while the heated shot was kind of murky and cloudy. So my conclusion is that oxycontins should NOT be heated, unless you are interested in injecting useless/dangerous binders and fillers into your bloodstream with no added benefit.

Anyone that says that heating OC's gives them more of a high, I implore you to crush your OC better, because when sufficiently crushed to a fine powder, your oxycodone will be as soluable as ever in cold water. There is no need to heat it, unless you like taking unnecessary risks by injecting talc and god knows what else (well forget god, anyone could know what else by searching, but I'm drunk and too lazy at the moment).

P.S. - by the way, I'm going to start a new thread in the OD forum about this. I'm under the impression that a large number of people feel the need to heat their OCs before injecting, and this being a harm reduction website, I think it is important to share my findings.

I'm talking about the rear cap, the one that covers the plunger end, not the needle end. It almost looks like a thimble, just a bit smaller.
