I have experience with IV drugs. IV seems to be easier than smoking or oral. I haven't actually taken DMT before but I hear it can be hard to get a good hit with the smoke, I think IV would be hard to waste any with.

It's definitely possible, prior to the discovery of "smoked" DMT people used IV all the time.

I would make absolutely sure you use nice, clean HCl or fumarate salts. At the very least d a recrystallization and make sure it's white. Do a micron filter, too.

Will it give a breakthrough, like the smoked experience? What would be a good dosage (fumarate)?

This MAPS study suggests anywhere from 0.2mg/kg to 0.8mg/kg with "breakthrough" effects just like smoked DMT at ~0.6mg/kg.

There is a thread about this, though it is somewhat inappropriately titled "[DMT subthread] Injecting (crystal clear) extracts."

I think most reports are about IV synthetic DMT. And the thread includes warnings about injecting impure, extracted DMT.
