IV dilaudid dosage

hi all

i took 4mg (2x2mg) dilaudid pills orally the other day and didn't feel much if any euphoria, just general pain relief, my pupils were tiny, just felt really neutral.
i have a few more and want to try IV'ing them. what dose should i start with to achieve some good euphoria and sense of well being? thanks, i plan to use a micron filter, etc.

You should do anything to avoid the needle! It's a terrible way to start a life-long addiction.

Rather than going from oral to IV, how about insufflated? It has a bioavailabiolity of more like 55% rather than 30-35% for oral. and is obviously much safer..

Glad you plan to use a micron filter though - remember not to heat the pills either. Have you IV'd before? If not, check out the IV Complications Megathread in the OD Directory, it has a great description of technique and what to look out for.

We can't answer a dosage question without knowing your tolerance to other opioids.. If you took 4mg oral that is equivalent to 1.2-1.4mgs IV, based on an oral bioavailability of 30-35% (see bioavailability megathread).

Indeed. In my experience, oral hydromorphone is useless. Even when I had nearly zero opiate tolerance, consuming Dilaudid (hydromorphone) orally did absolutely nothing.

I'm with effie and tricomb here. Give snorting a try before you jump all the way to IV.

Could you tell us some more about your opiate tolerance and/or usage history?

snorting dilaudid gives me an insane rush, i never felt the need to IV it, although i imagine that it must be amazing, although very unsafe

IV hydromorphone is basically the most intense opiate rush out there..It hits you hard and fast, like getting slammed by a truck. It doesn't have the longest legs..but the reason people IV it is for that insane rush. Like others have said, without knowing your opiate history and tolerance, it'd be hard to give you a good dose.. but when IV'ing most things..doing half or a quarter of what you would snort is usually a safe bet to start with.

I have used kratom up to 10g and codeine cold water extraction in range of 200-300mg (really hard to tell how much i got) a handful of times and thoroughly enjoyed the experiences and recently i came into possession of some of these little dillies and only have 4 left after eating 2. i wanted to make the most of them so thats why i was thinking of IV'ing them. i have never recreationally IV'd anything before.

i should mention a few months ago, on xmas day actually, before i started experimenting with codeine and kratom i took 1x2mg dilaudid and was feeling GREAT, too bad i didn't get anything near that off 4mg this time. it did wonders for my pain relief and had me feeling nice inside and that day i was depressed / irritable, etc. and that experience stuck out for me as something pretty mild but enjoyable and something i wouldn't mind indulging in here and there. the thing is i deal with chronic pain that i don't use pharmaceuticals or any drug other than marijuana to help with and these opiate experiences are a nice treat. i used to have a scrip for oxy and believe it or not only took 1 and the insane feeling of wellness they gave me stopped me from sticking with it. i remember playing with my lip for an hour or something just being in la la land. very enjoyable but i dunno why i didnt touch em after. made me feel too artificial or something... i cant really put my finger on it. i like the mellow feeling kratom and codeine give me. i remember the second time i did kratom i only took 5g during the day and was in a half-nod state with visions of dinosaurs in jungles playing behind my eyelids. i got some good writing done that day. thats really what im after.

i might give insufflation a try based on the reccomendations here. i've also heard about plugging which i will read into more. wouldn't mind trying that if it means making it go the mile without having to order some expensive watson filters.

i might insufflate just one tonight to see how it goes. i have been neglecting my physical wellness protocols and am very sore lately and wouldn't mind some relief before long day tomorrow...

To parrot others: oral hydromorphone is as effective as an NSAID... Sniff them for another story all together.

To insufflate them go VERY slow. Make each 2mg pill into 4 lines or so. There's so little active ingredient to filler that your nose will basically clog up on filler and not "get" any of the intended ingredient.
